I don't usually write a lot of reviews, but I specifically came back to this booking that we had in April of 2022 because I've thought about it so much since that stay. This was possibly the most unique setting I've ever had the pleasure of staying at; this was a hobby farm filled with free-range animals that wandered all over the grounds. The portion the owner uses as a visitor space is a wonderful little apartment attached to one of their outbuildings. It had views of the pond and all the animals, yet we felt completely left alone (in a good way!) We had a wonderful night's sleep away from the bustle of town. If you're looking for a unique experience in Hilo I'd highly recommend this incredible property. They made us breakfast the following morning and it was wonderful. We only stayed one night so I can't comment on a lot of the hospitality outside of the breakfast we had, but I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that it would all be equally great. Fair warning; there is not much to do in the town of Volcano, so I'd suggest packing snacks and drinks if you're planning to stay for more than a few days. One other fair warning: This is in the rain forest; you may encounter muddy terrain so be careful if you have a cheapo rental car. We had a Jeep and had no issues. If you want a really neat experience with good hosts, don't hesititate to book this property.

Aloha Ying -Pong, I'm sorry you weren't pleased with your stay and do certainly wish you would have said something upon arrival or at any time during your stay if you weren't happy with your accommodations. My interactions with you seemed very pleasant and your daughter’s text at the end of the stay indicated you had a wonderful stay and were very pleased with the accommodation. I would certainly appreciate it if you had reached out to discuss any grievances rather than have you leave a review that says “terrible” but doesn’t explain exactly what was so “terrible”. The Ranch isn't for everyone, and most of our reviews speak for themselves in what to expect, I’m just sorry we couldn’t live up to the expectations you may have had. I encourage you in the future to speak with the host rather than stay somewhere you are not happy.I do hope you enjoyed the rest of your vacation.

Great place to stay. It was fun to see the animals on the property. The breakfast was delicious and had several options. We stayed in the cabin and it was very well equipped, even had a great toilet and shower. The cabin itselt was complete with a comfortable bed and warm covers and a large quantity of flashlights. During cloud-free nights, the sky is illuminated with stars.

It was very clean, nicely decorated room. Breakfast was yummy. The goats were adorable. Just be aware that the animals will be immediately outside your door if you stay next to the barn. We liked that, though. Fun place to stay with a kid.

We had such a wonderful stay in the Lehua Retreat cabin. Accommodations were beyond our expectations and feeding and interacting with the animals was such a special treat for the kids. The property is beautiful and peaceful and just what we needed. Theresa went above and beyond to provide a pack and play for my 1 year old, and even cut up our breakfast fruit extra small for the little ones. Breakfast was hot and delicious and such a treat for us as our first stay at a B&B. Definitely recommend to anyone who likes the farm/ranch vibes, and great for families with small kids too. Convenient location only 10 minutes from Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park.

Excellent Place, but not for everyone
This place was great, but not for everyone. You need to be comfortable with being on a farm, with farm animals running wild. If you are this homey, rustic, comfortable stay is for you. We loved it for our two night stay. Great breakfast, gas fireplace/heater and private porch area overlooking a lake with chickens and ducks. Would stay here again. It was a unique experience. I'm glad we found this place.

This bed and breakfast met and exceeded the expectations of my travel group of 4 ladies. The beds were comfortable. The breakfasts were fresh and tasty. We loved the fresh eggs and fresh fruits. We were able to interact with the animals which was offered as an option, and this was so much fun for our animal lovers. The facility accommodated our request for a last-minute change due to flight difficulties which was over and above what was expected. We definitely recommend this bed and breakfast and hope to visit again.

We spent one night at the ranch. We are very impressed by the fresh breakfast, especially the unique duck egg omelette. The ranch is cozy and quiet. The goats are smart and cute. It provides us a perfect place to rest visiting the volcano.

Arpitha Rao, I am disappointed also. Even after I reached out to you through the in house feed back portal and advised if you had contacted me directly before or after your call to Expedia there were alternative options for your cancellation. You never reached out but chose to state your disappointment in a public forum, which is actually okay by us. We see it as an opportunity to provide future insight to guests who may see themselves in a similar situation. We are not a huge hotel with hundreds of rooms. We are a small B&B with 4 rooms. When you hold a room for 2 months and cancel 3 days prior to your arrival, chances of us renting that room out again are very slim. Additionally, as the room was never cancelled on your end I was obligated to hold it for you in the event you were to show up. My advise to you, again, is to contact the properties directly in the event of a cancellation outside of the window that allows a full refund. Alternative options can be provided that are not provided through the 3rd party booking sites. I advise all travelers should also consider trip insurance in the event the unforeseen happens you would be covered. Warmest Aloha.

Amazing alternative to a generic hotel! So charming and idyllic. We were nervous when we were told we were staying in "the barn", but trust me, it's the best! It's a fully finished in-law unit with a cozy sunroom overlooking the pond and a menagerie of adorable farm animals right outside our windows in a lush, tropical paradise!

Aloha, you are correct, this is not the right experience for everyone. All of our reviews mention the experience to expect, which is a small farm/ranch with animals. As owner/operators we don't have "staff" to speak of but we treat our guests with the same level of respect or lack there of we receive from them. This is not a commercial hotel, but a small business and our home which we enjoy sharing with guests from all over the world. Asking for respect and courtesy for not only ourselves and our other guests shouldn't even have to happen, it should be automatic.

Wonderful little getaway spot in the Volcano town. Be aware that you are on an actual ranch, so you'll find ducks, geese and other animals all around the condo (with their individual noise at night/in the morning). Perfect hosts with a lot of good advise about activities in and around Volcanoes National Park.

This property was a great place to stay while visiting volcano national park and the surrounding area. The animals were really friendly and a joy to be around. Theresa greeted us when we got there and provided us with helpful information on things to see and do. The breakfast was amazing! We appreciated the many thoughtful touches like the heated blanket, heated towel rack, flashlight and umbrellas for visiting the park. We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.

A true hidden gem
It's a little disconcerting when you're told you'll be "in the barn", particularly when there's a covered car in front of it. Never fear, the unit was lovely with a comfy super-king bed with a heated mattress pad to chase away any chill. We managed to spend two rainy cold days there so the propane fireplace was welcome and made it cozy. What a surprise to find the pond just outside our covered lanai the next morning. Truly unique and perfectly placed to drive to Volcano National park.

This b&b was a unique stay. It felt like you were in a treehouse with the lush trees and greenery surrounding you. Keep in mind that this is a farm so there are goats and chickens and roosters. It was pretty quiet except when the rooster crowed in the morning at sunrise. The couple was friendly and the breakfast was good.

A tranquil retreat

Comfortable Big Island rainforest abode.
Theresa met us at the entrance on a drizzly night and escorted us to our room. She spent time sharing local travel logististicts and insigths about Volcanoes National Park. This set us up nicely for our stay.

I had been to Hawaii before and done the typical tourist visit. I was looking for a more personal and relaxed experience this time. Theresa and Randy provided an excellent experience with Volcano Acres Ranch. It was great getting to interact with the animals and have chats about our daily outings. They provide a wealth of information about the area and things to do from the various hiking areas within the Volcano Park, to Green Sand Beach, Akaka Falls, ...etc. The daily morning breakfast with the fresh papaya boats were wonderful. Our room had all of the amenities and then some like the heated towel rack and propane fireplace. This was one of my best vacations. I don't think my husband and I have been so happy on a vacation before as we were with this one. If you're looking for a place to stay away from the tourist areas, provides a more personal experience, and is near the National Volcano Park, this is it!
