Nice place
Got in on a Friday evening and was greeted by the chirp of the smoke alarm in the master bedroom--the battery was dying. Even though the next day was a Saturday, the host had his handyman (who was a very nice fellow) arrive with ladder and a fresh battery. The house is in a very quiet neighborhood (the sheep next door sleep through the night and are charming during the day.)

Super pleased with this home. Would 100% stay here again. Only issue was cleanliness in small areas - like under beds. Plenty of space, bedding, supplies, and all kinds of extras. Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful home.

Great location and extras
This property is conveniently located near the entrance of Volcanoes National Park. We had plenty of room to relax inside and out. The kitchen is very well stick with a wide variety of appliances, cookware and some storage containers. The unit was clean and had a cooler, and beach towels available for our stay. . Filtered water from the fridge was a plus. Overall a great stay! Mahalo!

Two major issues with this place.. #1 COCKROACHES... I understand its on a tropical island, but still, the owners have been notified long in advance of our stay and yet those bugs are still running around. #2 Roof leaked in the middle bedroom and that was unsafe mold growing in the closet. The landlord did call in a construction crew to address, but it was right in the middle of our stay and due to the health issues, my large adult son had to sleep on a kids bunk bed. I feel we should have been lodged at some other place or at a minimum, we should have been offer a reduction in the price we paid... The landlord was silent and no longer responded to my texts afterwards.

A hidden gem close to Volcano
This location was surprising. The house doesn’t look like much outside but the inside is gorgeous. The kitchen has great appliances and comfortable spaces. Next door you find a goat farm and head the “Mhhhh” of the goats. The house is one of several well worn streets, but the inside will wow you. The location is minutes from Volcano National Park. The town of Volcano has several places to eat, but stock your supplies and gas before getting here! Communication with the manager was great.

Very close to national park
Can’t beat the location of this property. Just minutes from national park entrance. House was comfortably spacious for 7 people and has a beautiful backyard. If you are a light sleeper, you should not choose the master bedroom to sleep in. Every time the water is used, the loud water pump goes on. It’s hard not to hear it. We only stayed for two nights, so it was doable. We wanted to be close to the national park and for that this house was ideal. One thing to note is: you do need to come prepared to the house though. Groceries or restaurants in close proximity closed early or were overwhelmed and couldn’t accommodate more customers, but this is most likely COVID related. Just bring enough food and drinks with you already. One thing we didn’t find enjoyable, was that we were responsible to bring the trash to the transfer station. This is a service that should be included in the cleaning fee. We were 7 grown people with luggage already cramped into a rental car, so the garbage run added an extra trip on departure day. The transfer station is not 1 mile south as stated in the house instructions, but NE going towards Hilo. Luckily we figured it out, even though my question regarding that was not answered by the owners assistant. Otherwise it is a great choice if you plan to visit the Volcano national park.

There is a king bed in the primary, a queen bed in the 2nd bedroom and 4 twin beds in the third. The remaining sleeping was advertised in the living room on convertible futon beds and slept 5 more. Some would say that sleeps 13.

Nice but small for 12
The house is advertised to sleep 13, but we found it pretty crowded with 12, 6 adults and 6 kids. We made it work, and it was OK, but we would recommend it for 6, not 12. The house does not have adequate hot water for that many to take showers, and the water system uses a pump that turns on every time a tap is opened. The location is excellent for visiting the national park, and the price is reasonable.

Good for a family visit to VNP
We wanted to spend more than a day in Volcanoes National Park, to give family from the mainland a chance to see it all. This property was a good fit for our group (adult children and parents), and allowed all of us to stay under one roof, and be up for a bit playing cards without disturbing anyone but ourselves. We were only at the property to shower and sleep, but it was close to the park, which was our top priority.

Mahalo for the review Diane and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. As was mentioned once you booked your reservation and again, a week prior to your arrival,..."Within the week prior to your check-in, you'll be able to view the rental info, instructions & directions from the airport by logging into your VRBO/Homeaway account." I don't know when the last time you used VRBO/Homeaway was but with the current ability to put all of the documentation that my guest need online makes it available to them while they are anywhere in the world via a computer, tablet or smartphone.

House had issues with H2O pump
Actually liked the house, not sure about the smallish bed in the Master BR, well furnished. Our issue was the water pump was malfunctioning so we had to turn it off when we weren’t using it...Owner was very responsive to our needs... Maybe we’ll get invited back with a discount next time...

I'm glad you liked the house. The bed is a queen size in the master bedroom. Yes definitely. I'd be glad to honor a discount next time as I mentioned when you checked out. There was a cracked pipe fitting that was leaking so the house water pump was not turning off. So sorry you had to turn off the pump when not using it to stop the humming when the pump is on. All fixed now.

Very nice, but somewhat pricey
The home and property where very comfortable, clean and well furnished. The two bathrooms, were adequate for 10 of us, 6 adults, 4 kids. Master bedroom and bath very comfortable, but there is a water pump and tank outside the exterior of the bathroom wall which is extremely noisy, especially if you go to bed early, it may be the only water pump into the entire house. We only stayed one night and the cost as listed on the VRBO site was $225.00 per night, but the managing agent fee was $244.00, with a cleaning fee of $100.00 and taxes raised the one night stay to $576.00, for 2 family's, which is okay, but for one family it would be very pricey for one night. Short drive to all, Volcano Nat'l Park and lunch at the Ohelo Cafe, very good home cooking and soups, fish sandwich was incredible. Ate Dinner at the Lava Rock Cafe, very good also, great grass fed burger, and salads. All food prepared at both restaurants are fresh, nice to get away from the processed stuff on the mainland, thought it may seem pricey to some, remember this is not the processed stuff on the mainland but real food on an island.

Mahalo for your review and for bringing the cost plus the sound of the house water pump to my attention. Although I can't do much with the fixed costs including state taxes, cleaning & VRBO's fees, I can make an improvement to the exterior pump/heater shed so the sound of the pump is not as loud in the house. Aloha!

Great location for us!
This was a very good place for our family of 12 since it is so close to the park. We were able to make many trips to the national park and still accommodate nap time for the little ones, night visits to see the lava, and various hikes. There were plenty of beds and the kitchen was well-equipped for our cooking needs. (Be sure to bring your food with you because shopping options are not nearby.) We loved the fenced yard so the children could play outside while meals were being prepared. The grounds were beautiful with many flowering plants. The neighborhood was very quiet. It was a sanctuary!

Wonderful house!
This house was great although a little cramped. We had 10 people and used all the beds and futons, but were still comfortable. It would be perfect for a slightly smaller group. We had a wonderful time enjoying family time. We loved the open feeling in the family room/dining room/kitchen. We only stayed 2 nights but would have enjoyed longer. This house is perfect for someone in a wheelchair like my mom. It was easy in and out to the car and the house was all on one level. Just so you know the breaker box is directly behind the garage entry door as you enter inside. We had to turn everything on to get power. Also the water runs hot and cold randomly during showers. Adjusting the shower knob didn't help.

We had an excellent vacation and enjoyed staying at the Mauna Loa Estates. It is a beautiful 3 BR house and it was perfect for our family. We saw the volcano erupt at night. We enjoyed many hikes and we were glad to come home to this house to relax.

Cozy hideaway
We rented this home to stay one night during our visit to Volcano National Park. The location is very close to the park, yet tucked away in a tropical back drop. The house was represented as listed on line and offers a "cabin like" feel. We used the spacious kitchen, the grill and the wood burning stove. We appreciated that wood was available for the wood stove since we arrived later in the evening after spending the day at the National Park and were unfamiliar with the area. Since the temperature drops at night, the wood stove helped to keep the main living space comfortable, yet the bedrooms do stay cool. The large dining table was a plus, as well as the open plan family room. We drove from Kailua Kona to visit the park and it was worth the trip! Our group of five adults enjoyed hiking and viewing the volcano at dusk. In addition, we were in awe at how the sky lit up at night. When we arrived at the house, we got out of our cars and looked up and saw more stars than we have ever seen before. The next day we stumbled upon the Thai Thai Restaurant and it was one of the best meals I had on the entire trip. We continued on to Hilo and stopped by Rainbow Falls before heading back to Kailua Kona via Saddle Road. It was later in the afternoon when we started back, but the drive was another cool experience. At one point we were driving through the clouds and as dusk approached, the sky became a mix of pink and blue hues above puffy clouds.

Just Like Home
This house was perfect for our 3 kids and 4 adults and roomy enough for even more! They had thought of pretty much everything, so after a trip to Costco (we forgot coffee though!), we were set for our stay. It felt like home and we were very conveniently located to Volcanoes Park and were able to do a lava boat tour (highly recommended!) and relax at the house afterwards. Neighborhood is very quiet and secluded - a great getaway! If you are staying here or anywhere in the Volcano area, keep in mind that cell service is spotty and between that and GPS eating up your phone battery, you might find yourselves in trouble if you're depending on your phones. Print off a copy of the house info so you have that handy. We arrived late at night and were fortunate to have one phone still able to text and call the owner. He was very responsive and helpful - as is all the information you are sent after booking - the owners take good care of their property!

Lovely house, very comfortable
The house was easy to locate and very comfortable for a large group. We were only there long enough for a few hours of sleep but I hope we can come back some day and rent it again. Minor complaint - the internet was not working and we were not able to get it to work despite the owner suggesting a possible flipped breaker switch. Minor inconvenience, I'm sure had we been there longer Greg would have come over and taken care of it. All in all a great place!

Perfect hale for any group or family needing space, large kitchen, comfort and fun!!!
Aloha Gregg, Your VRBO was a perfect choice for one of the homes that I selected for our halau Volcano performance sleep over. This house was exactly what I needed for a base during our stay. The kitchen and garage was great for preparing meals for three different houses. We used the huge garage for rehearsals and changing room for costumes. The back yard was perfect for some volleyball fun where all houses joined to play here! The rooms set up worked out perfect for all. During down time the kids enjoyed the entertainment center, games, cards, WiFi etc... We are thankful for your checking on our arrival and making sure all was well. We are Halau Waiau from Waimea, HI and I truly recommend this hale to any family or group! Your hale helped make our performance and Halau huaka'i an awesome experience! Maika'i (excellent)
We live in Kona and have family visiting from Oahu and wanted a place to stay overnight close to Volcano National Park and found this on VRBO. It was great! Easy access off the main highway, close to the volcano park to get back in at night to see the "glow", close to Volcano town to get supplies and eat out. The house was nice layout for 2 families, kitchen is well supplied to cook, space heaters are available if needed, great kitchen table to fit 8 and play games at night. (bring a deck of cards!) Greg was very helpful getting us the key codes to get into the house and gate early in the day of arrival and very responsive to our questions. We liked is so much we went back a second time when we had our other family come in from Washington. Suggestions for Greg - a few games at the house would be positive we brought ours. Some firewood for the wood stove would be nice - there was some kindling boxed up but the wood supply was out. But we did not need the heat we were quite comfortable in the house.

Ideal property close to the National Park
This property is well-appointed and clean and Greg was really helpful with advice from the moment of booking. The village has several eating places but I would recommend making reservations if you are looking to eat at particular times, especially if you want to dine at Volcano House in the park. Volcano is at about 4000ft so can be cool and rainy - very different from the desert-lanscape of the west coast. All in all a great little cottage half way up a mountain.

Well located, clean
Very well located for visit to Volcanoes Park. Well kept, clean. Only problem we had was that owner requested we use fireplace instead of heaters yet there was no paper or wood readily available to burn. Though it sounded like portable heaters were available, we only found one (pretty old) in the master closet so overall, at night in the winter, the house was a bit cold. Also none of the lights would come on when we first entered and not knowing where anything was, it was a bit frustrating in the dark to get things going. Used cell phone lights to locate breaker box which had been turned off. Not sure if cleaning help turned it off? but nothing was said about it in check in info. so if you rent it, the breaker box is on the wall as you enter the house through the carport! Otherwise, all went well but we really just slept there one night. Greg was available and helpful when we called.
