Great clean quaint lodge. Beautiful outlook in very quiet area. Special touch of fruit and goodies for breakfast and a huge bottle of water daily as water is not potable in the Volcano region. Office located at a nearby store which directions are clearly noted when booking the accommodation. Would definitely stay again.

Pros- The area was beautiful and the unit was clean. Cons-unit was cold- was 50 degrees at night- they did have a propane heater but wondered if it was installed correctly. The units smoke detector in the room with the heater was missing off the ceiling- wires hanging and the detector in the bedroom kept beeping when the heater was in use. I didn’t want to die or carbon monoxide so we just were cold all night. Also the unit has non potable water- if I had known this ahead of time I would have brought water- they had a disposable gallon jug of water there but it wasn’t sealed/new and I didn’t feel comfortable using it. Also the people checking us in and out at the hardware store were polite there was no number to call if you had a problem.

I stayed two nights in Wolfie One. It was like a private cabin in a tropical forest. It is one of four units in a single building each unit having one corner of the building. There is a parking space, a nice, covered porch outside the entry, then a living room, a bedroom and a bath. In the living room there is a small refrigerator, a coffee maker but no microwave. There is a TV and DVD player. Do read the small instruction card to learn how to turn on the cable box and the TV. The water is NOT potable but a jug of drinkable water is provided. I had to keep the bedroom door closed to keep the smoke detector quiet. The check-in desk is at the nearby but separate Ace Hardware store which is unusual but workable. I had breakfast at the nearby Kilauea Lodge; highly recommended. I also enjoyed Ohelo Cafe for lunch.

I really enjoyed my stay. The check in location was hard to find and located inside a convenience store, but they had very clear email instructions and it was on me for not reading carefully. Every staff I encountered was super welcoming, and complimentary snacks and fruits were provided. The area is a 5 min drive to Volcano national park, and there’s a Thai restaurant within walking distance. I have nothing to complain.

We were in Hilo visiting family and decided to stay here due to its previous reviews. When we first enter the cabin, we immediately were hit with a musty odor. Upon further inspection, we noticed areas in the kitchen that had food. The toaster had crumbs, and the sink had something in it. The towels were damp due to the interior humidity. The rooms were dusty. Some of the positives, the staff were nice and friendly, the water was hot, the cabin location was quiet and beautiful.

Positives: located two miles outside Volcanoes Nat’l Park, very peaceful, bed is small but comfortable, was reasonably clean, and the staff was super friendly. They left a nice little basket with a couple of bananas, etc. Negatives: aside from a newer frig, everything else seems to be from the 70’s and not in a cool retro way—in a falling apart, worn out way. Dish towels and dishes were old, matted, sticky. The musty, mildew smell was powerful. Was overpriced relative to its condition; glad we had it booked for just one night.

I loved this place, stayed in August with my adult children, plenty of room, loved sitting outside in the mornings, star gazing at night. Extra nice touch of fruit and muffins for breakfast, thanks to everyone for making this a memorable vacation!

You are paying for location and access to the National Park. We arrived after dark having discovered that checkin was a two hour window that with car rental collection in Kona, which was a farce, made it impossible to achieve. The lodge we were staying in was very difficult to find, my daughters have completed many orienteering courses in their late teens and it took us nearly an hour to find. Up and down various roads with multiple obstacles in the rain, eventually we arrived and everyone was very uncomfortable in the environment. We had two lodges booked but all stayed together for safety as we felt very exposed. When we awoke the next morning it was a stunningly beautiful, tranquil spot in a rain forest on the edge of the volcano park and we all felt a bit stupid for how we felt the night before. The accommodation is very basic and doesn’t reflect the price paid but the location was fantastic in day light. We were in the park before 8am and did the whole park by 2pm so we achieved what we wanted from staying here, probably would stay further out in Hilo if doing it again though?

This is my second time staying. Property is good, very convenient if you are visiting the park. This time the cleanliness was a little issue. These cabins are very moist so they have dehumidifiers provided. When I walked into our cabin it wasn’t running and smelled very damp. The couch had lots of mold in the cracks as well as the pillows. There was also urine left in our toilet. Other than those issues, stay was good, fresh water and fruits provided.

We are glad you mostly enjoyed your stay. We generally turn of the dehumidifiers when guests are expected to arrive. Humidity is a constant issue as we are in a rainforest.

It was lovely once we got to the room. The check in/out was odd, in a True Value store, and was only between the hours of 3:00-5:00pm. That should be noted somewhere, we arrived at 5:00 and almost missed it.

Quiet, serene, beautiful cottage in the middle of lush green nature and lots of flowers.... loved it. Price is on the high side and I had to wait for more than half an hour at the restaurant to check in after a long flight from Canada. Check in/out process could be a little more user friendly.

The property is located in a quiet place surrounded by beautiful scenery. It has all the conveniences of a home including washer and dryer in the deluxe suite. The wifi connectivity was pretty bad though. Also, very few dining options around and all of them were overcrowded over the Holiday season.

Would not recommend at all. When we arrived the house smelled like mildew. It stated there were dehumidifiers that would be running, they were not. Of the 2 provided only one actually worked. Within an hour of being there, the propane fireplace ran out of propane. And, when we tried to use the 2 space heaters provided (at the same time) they kept tripping the breaker. When I attempted to contact someone there was no emergency number listed on the paper work or online at all! The beds were clean, but super uncomfortable. You could feel every spring and hear it creak whenever you moved. Blankets were mismatched and super dated. There were cobwebs in the shower. When I was showering the water just shut off and wouldn't turn back on. Since it's a rainwater catchment system I assume it ran out?! Terrible rental, especially at $400 for the night.

We stayed at the Lava Lodge Jade house. It was a lovely abode surround by the sounds of nature. The house was clean and well kept and offered the seeming seclusion of being deep in a rainforest jungle. It was an amazing place to stay. Highly recommend.

The check in was at the Tru Value store nearby which I thought was different. The room we had was clean. It included a bowl of mixed fruit and muffins. It also had a 3 gallon jug of purified water that was filled almost daily. Due to the altitude, it rained every day we were here. Not good for us since we vacationed in Hawaii for the sun! The good thing is that it was about a mile from the entrance to Volcano Natl. Park which we visited twice. The bad is that it’s about 40 minutes from Hilo which we spend almost every day so lots of driving and gas fill ups. Our housekeeper Norma Jean was great though!! Very attentive and respectful!! All in all it was a nice stay but next time I’ll research the weather before reserving my next stay.

We lived in Wolfie Suite-1 which is a pleasant cozy unit with a separate living room. It's 7 mins drive from the entrance of Volcano National Park, which made it very convenient for us to do multiple visits in a day. Would definitely recommend staying there!

This place is a scam. We booked their biggest cabin right before the volcano erupted (December 2020) since the rate was reasonable at the time. The volcano erupted right before we were supposed to stay there. When we arrived we were given a MUCH smaller and inferior cabin which was listed twice cheaper when we were booking. On top of everything the cabin wasn’t properly cleaned and the sheets were covered with yellow dirty smelly stains. When we complained we were told that it was the only cabin available and the cabin we booked was “accidently” taken by someone else. However when we looked at availability online the cabin we booked for two days was listed as available for the next day at much higher rate that we originally booked it. Apparently they decided to put the cabin back on the market at much higher rate because the demand sky rocketed due to eruption. We ended up staying in the tiny smelly cabin they gave us for the first night and woke up covered with bed bug bites. After lots of complaining they agreed to move us to the cabin we actually booked for the second night and I almost believed that they made an honest mistake... oh I was mistaken! Instead of apologizing for double selling the cabin They tried to charge us additional $145 for staying in more expensive cabin for the second night even though that was the cabin listed on our reservation. This was literally the worst hotel experience I had in my life (and I travel a lot)

The suite we had was very clean, had lots of storage space and the bed was very comfortable. Of course we hiked nearly 7 miles that day so sleep came easily. The surrounding area was magical, and we enjoyed the Thai food at the restaurant nearby. They also provided a delicious fruit basket we had for breakfast.
