"This is a wonderful place and a wonderful lodge. Manager/Owner Cameron was very welcoming and supportive. The lodge is very well maintained and equipped. Many lovely details, including a busy bird feeder on the porch. Free kajaks. We will be back. But: You need a car for this location. We were travelling by train. The place is approx 4 km from Crianlarich station and from the local Londis store, and shopping etc was difficult."

"Booked on vrbo host came to see us not long after check in and said we had got a bargain seemed annoyed told us what we should have paid and then told what we paid . we paid what it came up online so we hadn’t done anything wrong .we are angry at this as the couple travelling with us we had bought for their anniversary gift and Cameron wasted no time in stating price of trip which was very unprofessional. "Hotel was very clean and the lady on reception was very welcoming when we arrived. The hotel is like a motel-type place. It's very expensive for what it is. But I guess you're paying for the location and peak summer season. It was very quiet at night. You could hear people talking in rooms next door and we thought that might be a problem at night but everyone was quiet at night (most people seemed to be staying for a rest stop on the West Highland Way so they (and us) were early risers). Parking is great - right next to the lodges. The bathroom was very 80s in decor but was clean and smelled nice. There was no hairdryer in the room (which was annoying because I purposely left mine at home because it specifically said hairdryers in the rooms) - you could ask at reception to borrow one but I didn't because that seemed like a faff. So I had to go out with wet hair both mornings."

"Groot huis in het groen met een zeer complete keuken en twee zeer moderne badkamers. Twee slaapkamers met heerlijk bedden en daarnaast een soort inpandig prieeltje waarin je met minder weer toch een beetje het idee hebt dat je in de grote, omheinde tuin zit. Een mix van modern en authentiek. Zeer schoon. Het huis ligt aan de doorgaande weg maar daar heb je geen last van. Van hieruit kun je de wijde omgeving ontdekken, al is alles wel een eindje rijden. Vriendelijke ontvangst."

"Our stay at Ptarmigan Cottage was truly wonderful. Nestled in a peaceful and picturesque setting near a welcoming local pub and just a short walk from the train station, it offered the perfect balance of tranquility and convenience. One of our group arrived by train from England, and having the station so close made things incredibly easy.The cottage itself was beautifully equipped, with all the modern comforts we could ask for, including cozy beds and soft linens. But what really made it special was the setting. Surrounded by stunning scenery, we found ourselves constantly captivated by the view from the window. The bird feeders just outside added an extra touch of charm - a delight for everyone especially the bird lovers!Portnellan served as the perfect base for exploring the area. We took day trips to Stirling, Fort William, Oban, and even made it out to the magical islands of Mull and Iona. Yet no matter where the day took us, it was always a pleasure to return to the peace and comfort of the cottage in the evenings. It felt like a true retreat in the heart of Scotland’s natural beauty.The booking process and communication from Cameron before and after our stay was second to none. We are beyond happy to give this location a 5-star review and if we ever get back to Scotland, we already know exactly where to stay."
