"The place is beautiful, in a great location, private and secluded, with nice amenities such as hot tubs, pool, wood BBQ. It looks just like the pictures and overall, we enjoyed our stay. But, - very limited hot water. Takes long to warm up and then only lasts 5 minutes. Not enough for 2 showers. We could only fill the amazing bath up a few inches before it got cold, so kind of useless. - lots of ants, and when we complained, we were told to deal with it ourselves - there was a birds nest...

"Every single staff member was warm and welcoming. The hotel is well-maintained and the room was very clean. The Japanese toilet in the room was a nice amenity, and toiletries were also available on the bathroom counter. The bed was comfortable and I like the different lighting options you can use. The pool was my favorite feature of the hotel. It's on the roof where you can also access the spa. The pool and hot tub are connected so you can easily switch from one to the other. It's a small,...

Pico Dreams - Sportfish

10/10 Excellent

"Great location! Great staff. Safe and quiet"

Hotel do Canal

8/10 Good

"Nicely located, convenient with underground parking. The breakfast buffet was a nice and complementary pastries and water bottle in the room. Inside of hotel and room, it was a bit outdated, but still comfortable for 2 nights. Awesome shower pressure! Nice view on Pico Island from their terrace. Overall, I’d go back."

Pico TERRAMAR & SPA

10/10 Excellent

"This is an excellent place to stay! The amenities are fantastic, and the staff were incredibly accommodating. They let my friend and me use the spa on our check-out day while we waited for our airport transfer, which was such a nice touch. The breakfast is plentiful and delicious, the rooms are spacious, and the outdoor pool is lovely. I highly recommend staying here!"

It's a small, shallow pool, so there is no diving and not much room to swim - all you can pretty much do is just float in the pool, which is really all you need. The hotel is a block away from a park/garden and a couple of blocks away from the marina. Everything is walkable. The front desk staff were very helpful. They gave me great suggestions for restaurants, shopping, and even helped me reserve a taxi tour of the island. I will definitely be staying here again."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Terra Do Pão?

The best area to stay in Terra Do Pão is the town of Ponta Delgada, particularly around the historic centre and marina.

Ponta Delgada is the largest city on the island and acts as the main gateway for most visitors. The historic centre is very walkable, with cobblestone streets, traditional architecture, and a good selection of shops, restaurants, and cafes. Key landmarks include the Portas da Cidade (City Gates) and the Igreja Matriz de São Sebastião, both easily accessible on foot. The marina area, just a short stroll from the centre, offers pleasant waterfront walks and departure points for boat tours.

Couples looking for a blend of convenience and local character will find Ponta Delgada ideal. You'll be within easy reach of cultural sights like the Carlos Machado Museum and the António Borges Garden, superb for a relaxing afternoon. Evenings can be spent enjoying meals at local restaurants or taking a leisurely walk along the promenade.

For travellers planning to explore the wider island, Ponta Delgada also offers excellent access to the main road networks, making day trips to natural attractions like Sete Cidades and Furnas straightforward.

When is the best time to go to Terra Do Pão?

The best time to visit Terra Do Pão is during the shoulder seasons of May, June, September, and October.

These months offer a pleasant balance of good weather and fewer crowds compared to the peak summer period. You can expect mild temperatures, ideal for exploring the island's natural beauty, from its volcanic landscapes to its coastal trails. The ocean is also warm enough for swimming and water activities during these times.

For those looking to enjoy the island's hiking trails and outdoor activities, May and June are particularly good. The wildflowers are in bloom, and the landscapes are lush and green. The weather is generally settled, making it superb for exploring the Sete Cidades lakes or ascending Pico da Vara.

If you prefer warmer sea temperatures for swimming and diving, September and October are excellent choices. The summer heat has subsided, but the ocean retains its warmth, providing comfortable conditions for enjoying the island's many beaches and natural swimming pools.
