The Technology and Maritime Museum is a part of a group of museums within the Malmo Museum. It features exhibits about Malmo’s history, from transportation to industry. Learn about pioneering Swedish inventions, explore the inside of a submarine and listen to the sounds of a mechanical jazz band.
Discover the history of Malmo in the City of All Times exhibition. Learn about how Malmo developed from an industrial city in the 1850s to what it is today. Take a seat in the small cinema and watch short movies and documentaries about the different eras Malmo has gone through. Listen to the five-piece Machine Orchestra, a mechanical jazz band that plays live every Saturday afternoon.
In the Muscles and Motors exhibition are historic vehicles. This display charts the development of hand- and horse-powered machines to gas and electricity engines. Exhibits include a horse-drawn tram, a tractor and a steam locomotive engine. Find more information about famous Swedish inventions in the Smart exhibition. See the world’s first implantable pacemaker, invented in 1958 by Rune Elmqvist. Both parents and young children will love the indoor play area.
Explore a U3 submarine from World War II. War veterans offer guided tours and explain how the boat operated and what life was like living and working on board. Pick up an audio guide from reception and listen to interviews with other former submariners.
The museum is within easy walking distance to the city centre and is situated close to Malmo Castle. There is a small on-site car park, which is free to park in. There is also parking available for a fee in front of the castle.
The Technology and Maritime Museum is open daily with the exception of some public holidays. Admission includes entry to the Malmo Museum and visitors 19 years of age enter free.
