Charming Riverside Cottage - Ideal for Families & Groups, Pool, Gardens & River
The Old Wharf Cottage is a beautiful thatched riverside retreat nestled between two islands on the picturesque banks of the River Thames. The house is situated minutes from the historic towns of Windsor and Eton, and is a great central base to explore famous locations and attractions such as Ascot race course, Thorpe park, Henley Royal Regatta and Central London.
Due to high demand the heated pool is now available from April till the end of September. (The Hot tub is available all year round)
Watch the river go by from your own private heated pool, Jacuzzi and decking areas. Enjoy dining al fresco by the riverside on two patios, or in the open plan kitchen/diner.
The Old Wharf Cottage was originally built in 1903 in the Edwardian Arts and Crafts style and has been lovingly maintained and constantly upgraded to a high standard. There are riverside lawns stretching down to a seating and dining area with wood fired Pizza oven and BBQ by the rivers edge.
You enter the house through the main entrance hall which leads upstairs via the oak staircase.
Off the first-floor landing, there is a substantial queen-size ensuite bedroom, with riverside views and balcony. There is one large ensuite twin bedroom, as well as good sized twin and double bedrooms with access to a large family bathroom. All three bathrooms are state of the art, two with walk in showers, hand basin and W.C. and the third, the family bathroom, has a large bath, walk in shower, W.C. and hand basin.
One highlight of the house is the third double bedroom, which is attached to the side of the house on brick arched supports and is constructed out of 19th century oak beams from one of the last pioneering ships bound for Australia and contains wooden carvings and unique features from this era. Please note this last room is a smaller double room accessed off the main staircase.
The ground floor consists of the entrance hall with separate W.C. and an open plan, fully equipped kitchen/diner with both a gas fired Aga and an electric cooker, perfect for entertaining or creating family meals. There are two lounges leading off the dining room, one a river lounge overlooking the Thames with double doors leading via a patio dining area, across the lawn. The second lounge is equipped with electric coal-effect fire, flatscreen smart TV with Netflix, a grand piano and chess set.
There are multiple board games available, as well as an outdoor ping pong table and croquet set. There is also a multipurpose play area for younger children and fencing for both the pool and river.
The 10m by 5m pool is heated in the summer months and the pool side and decking areas are great places for relaxing or enjoying the hot tub, right by the Royal River Thames. Please ask about the availability of the pool and hot tub heating outside of the summer months
The riverside views and gardens are a real highlight of this property. Positioned between two small islands, this is a beauty spot with fantastic opportunities for bird watching or just absorbing the river boating life and gentle atmosphere floating past. Elegant swans, ducks, kingfishers, herons and grebes are daily visitors. We can help organise boat trips to explore the Thames.
Ample private parking for multiple cars to the rear of the property which is bordered by picturesque cottage gardens.
We have good overground rail links close by, from both Slough and Wraysbury stations to central London, taking approximately 15 and 40 minutes to Paddington and Waterloo.
