"We were not told when booking that the hotel was under renovation, so in the tower we stayed in we walked over cardboard, plywood and duct tape. We were not offered a different room because of all the construction, maintenance golf carts, and workers were very visible at all times. The room smelled musty, when we told the front desk they did send housekeeping up to spray, and make the room smell better. The bed was uncomfortable, low to the ground, and lumpy. The carpet was old in the rooms and noticed my feet were dirty looking after walking on it. If you are going to renovate it would seem you would close down that area so not to have such negative look and atmosphere. The restaurant was very expensive, $75 for breakfast without alcohol was a bit pricy. We were very disappointed in the hotel."
"Beautiful complex and views from the room. The unit we stayed in was a bit dated but clean. Only downside was the bed was very old and uncomfortable so we had to buy a foam topper which we then had to leave there rather than travel home with it."
"Was terrible communication tried to get ahold of them to switch my reservation to correct island. No one got back to me. They still charged me for the stay. Terrible customer service. Would not recommend outrigger. Sheraton on Kauai was way better. Cleaner, amenities were nice. Would highly suggest the Sheraton over any outrigger. They put a bad taste in my mouth will never reserve with them again couldn’t even assist me in switching a reservation to one of their other properties. As well the property on Kauai had flood damage. My room smelled like mold and mildew. The floor was soaked. Terrible experience. "
Ocean Beach Home In The Heart Of Authentic Old Hawaii
10/10 Excellent
"Such a beautiful place, comfortable and well-equipped with everything we could need. From spectacular views to a ton of spices and lovely indoor spaces, it was a great place to relax and explore. We loved the big dormitory room with space for the kids to be while we had a refuge away from them with our own outdoor shower! Great communication with our host when we needed it. Highly recommend!"
"Our stay at Gingerhill Farm Retreat was a unique and grounding experience. We stayed in the Bamboo cabin with an outdoor kitchen, shower, and sink, all supplied with propane and warm water, along with a clean compost toilet. The space was designed as an open lanai, allowing for natural cross-ventilation. We never needed the fan.
The cabin was surrounded by lush vegetation, with the sounds of the jungle creating a vivid atmosphere at night and in the early morning. The common areas include a terrace overlooking the ocean beyond the tree line, offering beautiful sunset views.
The staff was attentive and supportive throughout our stay. We also had the honor of meeting the owner, Ms. Mayumi Oda, often referred to as the “Matisse of Japan,” whose vision promotes healthy living and environmental awareness.
This experience offered a rare balance between natural living and everyday comfort. It felt less like a stay and more like an immersion into a different way of being."
"This B&B was the best part of my stay on the Big Island. It really felt like you were warmly invited to someone’s home. Hannah, the innkeeper, is a true gem of a human being and brings a special peace and loveliness to the space.
When one of my excursions got unexpectedly canceled, I decided to have a lazy day at the property: soaked in the hot tub, took a long shower in the outdoor lava shower, and read on the quiet and peaceful lanai that had a fantastic view overlooking the coastline, had several slices of delicious cake that was offered as part of the afternoon snack. I would absolutely come back."
"It is very hard to locate the property.
The management said that even Uber sometimes has trouble finding it.
The pools are small but very clean.
The rooms were huge.
Not at all crowded. Definitely need a car.
Would definitely come back."
