About this property
Luxurious Granny House Bell Busk Malhamdale Yorkshire Dales National Park
*Sleeps 6 in 3 large bedrooms *Pretty gardens *4 poster bed *Log burner *Yorkshire Dales National Park * On The Pennine Way *Dark sky *Bespoke kitchen with Rangemaster and Induction hob *Piano and guitar *EV Charger *Eco-friendly Regularly refurbished, Granny House in Bell Busk is a self catering holiday cottage that welcomes up to 6 people. You will be staying in a gorgeous 400 year old farmhouse (a Yorkshire laithe) on the old pack horse route from Gargrave to Settle on the Southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park near Malham in Malhamdale. You will enjoy luxurious, spacious, characterful eco-friendly and comfortable accommodation with panoramic pastural views. If the sun is shining in Bell Busk it will shine on Granny House from sunrise until the sun sets. Granny House has become a popular location for gatherings of families, friends, bridal groups and honeymoons. This is tranquility realised, you will love it from the moment you arrive, a stylish hidden gem that will leave you feeling rested, happier and healthier. A paradise for nature lovers and gardeners, for walkers and cyclists, the Pennine Way and cycle route 68 are just down the lane. This is farming country and England at its best. It will be as tranquil or bustling as you want it to be. The country side is beautiful and uncrowded but good facilities are within easy reach. Borrow our bat detector, let us show you the workings of The Harrison Clock in the Church or help us make cider in the Autumn. Granny House is ideally located with easy access onto fast roads or country lanes. You will find everything you need for a relaxing short break or month long holiday. You will have 3 bedrooms to choose from; a large master room with en-suite and king size 4 poster, a large double and a large twin. You will have a desk and chair if you need to bring some work with you. There is a house bathroom with a roll top bath big enough for two. The kitchen and dining room is open plan and is a great sociable space. The hand built bespoke wooden kitchen has been described as a cooks dream with good quality equipment, and a Rangemaster cooker with induction hob. In this room, there is a piano and guitar with sheet music, books and radio. The sitting room has a TV with 'free to air' satellite channels, magazines, books, games and a log burner. You will even have central heating, double glazing, hot and cold running water, electricity, an iron and a hairdryer. There is an information folder in the kitchen which clearly explains how to work everything and you will have your very own mini tourist information centre to hand with leaflets and organised folders to help you plan your perfect holiday. The gardens are pretty and spacious with well stocked borders, tables and chairs. We provide picnic blankets too, but there is an unfenced deep pond and an unfenced drop into the car park at the back so children must be supervised at all times. Malham Cove and Haw Crag can be seen from the back garden. The garden at the front is smaller with a nice view of the church spire and the little viaduct over which steam trains can be seen if you are lucky. We provide bird seed for the bird table. You will enjoy a private entrance and off road private parking for 3 cars, but you must promise to close the gates to keep out the nosey sheep and cows. In the surrounding fields, depending on the time of year, you will see spring lambs being born or gambling and pronking about, you may also see calves being born up until mid autumn. Bell Busk is a sleepy ancient hamlet, in a conservation area alongside the upper reaches of the River Aire and Otterburn Beck. It was once the main terminus for the Dales when we had a railway station and silk mill. Before that the Romans were here walking up and down our lane. There are lots of things to do round here with walks and cycle trails straight from your door. There are otters in the rivers, spot the king fishers too. At dusk, step outside to see bats and owls and then study the night sky without light pollution. The aurora can be seen from the garden during solar flares. We provide a dark sky resource pack.
We provide you with some local history about Granny House and some information about Bell Busk and Coniston Cold in your welcome folder. In the kitchen you will find a vast collection of information helping you to plan your day trips. The Coniston Hall Estate is nearby with opportunities for swimming, spa treatments, archery, off roading, clay pigeon shooting, fly fishing or just eating and drinking in the bars and restaurants, relaxing next to the log fire looking out over the lake. Rustic pubs are just 2 miles away. You can walk or cycle from the door, The Pennine Way is a few hundred yards to the East. Gargrave is a 2 mile walk along a very gentle pretty lane or a 5 minute trip in the car. You will find an excellent Co-op with good bread and fine wines, an award winning Indian restaurant, excellent fish and chip shop, 4 antique shops, 2 gastro pubs and remains of our Roman road submerged by the river but clearly visible. The pharmacy is there too. The Yorkshire Dales National Park is on your doorstep with pretty places to visit such as, Malham Cove, Gordale Scar, Janet's Foss, Aysgarth Falls, Yockenthwaite, and Ingleton Falls. Try some of the best hill walking England has to offer on Ingleborough, Pen Y Ghent, Whernside or Pendle Hill, we provide local walk books and the OL2 map. The AONB of The Forest of Bowland is just down the road with the famous Trough of Bowland and Gisburn Forest which is excellent for mountain biking. You can wander round the picturesque villages of Airton, Linton, Hetton, Grassington, Malham, Kettlewell, Haworth, Hawes, Kirkby Lonsdale, Clapham, Ingleton, Pateley Bridge and Embsay. We shall tell you where our favourite pubs and tea shops are once you are here. If you are coming to shop, then do it in style in Skipton, Settle, Ilkley, Clitheroe, Harrogate, Ripon, Leeds and York. Skipton and Settle are the nearest towns. Both ancient: Skipton boasts a medieval castle, canal, river, 4 day market, and a museum with Shakespeare's First Folio. Settle is more like a big village and quite delightful. For nature lovers, we provide you with bird seed so you can sit and watch our visitors with ease, we can lend you our bat detector too and if you want to see the salmon leaping then come and visit in October, they leap up the Ribble at Stainforth Force For geologists we have an example of just about every geological feature within a 20 mile radius, there are coral islands, faults, basins, hills, valleys, glacial moraine, erratics, caves, mines, quarries and rivers, the last ice age was here. For the archaeologists we have collected some leaflets that will guide you on local walks and we recommend a visit to the Hoffmann Kiln at Langcliffe. For those of you interested in Victorian mills and towns, we have the finest example of its kind at Saltaire, just 40minutes in the car. If trains are your thing, then look no further, there is a steam train that runs from Embsay to Bolton Abbey. There are a lot of steam trains on the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway, so take a ride up to Haworth to have a look at where the Brontes lived. The nearby village of Hellifield provides the gateway station for the famous Settle to Carlisle Railway, described as the most beautiful train journey in England. The famous Ribblehead viaduct is not far away. Sometimes the steam engines puff along over the little Bell Busk viaduct while you are watching from the comfort of your armchair. The famous cardboard railway model kits are made in Bell Busk. If you are interested in ruins then it's worth visiting Bolton Abbey, Bardon Tower, Fountains Abbey, Jervaulx Abbey and Rievaulx Abbey.

Stunning house in perfect location with walks in every direction that seemed our own private kingdom! The raised garden at sunset was unbelievable and the friendliness of the house for our group was perfect. Kitchen had every conceivable need and was the social centre of the house.
Lovely character house, immaculate & spacious very well equipped, everything you need. Views , walks. Lovely garden. Near to a pretty village with small supermarket & pubs & easy reach of Skipton, Malham cove & many other delightful places to visit.
Granny House is a lovely house, very comfortable and welcoming. Great size for six adults, and beautiful garden to enjoy (and stargaze in!). Excellent walks nearby, including short walk to Haw Crag straight from the door and only a 13 minute drive from Malham. Great communication with Jeannie, our host, from booking through to check in/out. Would definitely return!
A beautiful cottage in a lovely location. Super warm and cosy with lots of board games. Check in was very smooth. The house was very clean and had great views. I would recommend.
We had a lovely stay. The house is very well set up. It was extremely clean, warm and comfortable. We loved exploring the surrounding countryside and would definitely visit again. All the communication with the host was speedy and helpful. Thankyou!
The house is beautifully decorated and very cozy. The garden is fantastic, behind the garden there is also land to roam around and discover chickens and rabbits. Lots of fun for the kids! The Hosts live next door, are very hospitable and very helpful. The environment is idyllic and beautiful. Great vacation!
Very secluded, which I loved. Jeanne was extremely helpful and directions were spot on. Lovely old house, with touches of times gone by and all mod cons as well. Cows and chickens and a lovely garden for book reading. Horse riding in the dales was an added bonus.
Thank you for letting me stay.
Dear Sir /Madam
We were very excited to arrive at our holiday house in Malham as advertised through your website.
However our excitement turned into a slight disappointment, as what you advertised on the website was not actually available at the house.
After querying the hot tub, which was a main reason why we chose this house, the owners told us they had never had a hot tub in the house.
The same was with the gym advertised on the website. I am an older person and was happy to have a gym in the house.
So a gym for myself and a hot tub for the children was the ideal holiday place for us.
You can imagine our disappointment when none of these were actually in the house.
The owners claim they did not know this was in the advert on your website, and say they are not responsible for what's advertised on your website.
I would like you to look into this and refund us accordingly and compensate us for our trust in you and not receiving the goods you advertised.
Please advise how you intend to sort this out without me having to take legal action.
Many thanks
Simon Kaufman

Beautiful, clean and superb location
Brilliant location and all the facilities you could ask for and extra small touches such as fresh veg, made to feel very welcome
Beautiful location, excellent facilities, fantastic weather (we were so lucky for September) Loved watching the sun set over the hills and the milky way at night. Would definitely recommend this getaway.

Lovely property. Ideal location for us not long enough
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The house was lovely and set within rolling fields minutes away from the Pennine Way.
The rooms were spacious and well equipped. We would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a peaceful location but still within reach of all amenities.
Such a terrific place to stay. Excellent quality and thoughtfully chosen furniture, linen and kitchen bits and pieces meant we felt at home right away, and there's lots of information provided about the house and places to visit in the area.
Wouldn't hesitate to come back again. Thanks so much.
We had a fabulous stay at Bell Busk. The property was situated up a quiet lane, near many local footpaths, but only a few minutes away from Skipton and Malham. We enjoyed relaxing in the large private garden, when not walking in the beautiful countryside around the house. Recommended.
This is a lovely, traditional farmhouse renovated to a high standard but without losing character. It was extremely comfortable and in an excellent location. We were able to divide our time between walking (and lovely walks from the doorstep), re-visiting favourite areas and visiting friends and family.
The area is outstanding and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend Granville House to others or to return ourselves.
We rented the house for five and a half weeks as a base to explore the Dales and to see family and friends. It was absolutely idyllic and exceeded our expectations for comfort and location. Jeanne and Richard were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the area. Very spacious and yet cozy house in a beautiful spot. Back at home in California now, but missing it already! Highly recommend.

Beautiful setting with far reaching quintessentially English views
House warm and comfortable. Cooking on an Aga a little daunting at first but proved to be very straightforward. Fantastic area for local walks, for exploring Dales villages and towns or just sitting by the window. Generous sized rooms so that house can absorb 6 without feeling squeezed. A very restorative holiday!

Perfect spot for relaxation
A great spot for exploring the dales, but still close to Skipton ... and even closer (walkable) to Gargrave. The house was very clean and comfortable and the kitchen was well appointed. The garden was lovely and provided a great spot for taking in the views over a cup of tea in the autumn sunshine. Our party of 4 was very comfortable here, and we had great fun watching the antics of the animals in the fields opposite whilst we were dining. We will definitely be back!
Had an amazing week at Granville House, its situated down a quiet lane off the beaten track but still close enough to civilization. The cottage is steeped in history (which we loved) and its such a peaceful place, one day I will retire somewhere just like this! Like most people we wanted to get away from "it all" at the moment and this was the perfect solution, didn't want to come home. House was spotless, check in and out was seamless. Highly recommended!
We chose the Bell Busk cottage because we wanted to spend some time in rural England enjoying the countryside but also wanted to be located within driving day trips to tourist sites. We drove to Harrogate and York on 2 different days. We hiked only a brief distance within the park due to time constraints but LOVED EVERY MINUTE! The cottage is beautifully decorated and so comfortable. Everything we would need to enjoy the cottage was provided. Owners were very responsive to questions. Wish we had planned to stay longer. We would love to return with other family members in another year or two.
Wonderful holiday - wish we had booked direct in retrospect! The very well proportioned house is located up a remote track (not close to the main road) and has a beautiful and large garden which I hadn’t appreciated when booking - perfect for our four kids to run around in and to bbq/eat our evening meals in. The setting is immediately very rural but a 5 minute drive gives you access to the larger village of Gargrave with its convenient as well stocked Co-op. The area around is so peaceful and beautiful with several walks from the door. And you are within east reach of Dales ‘highlights’ - of which we went to Malham, Grassington and Bolton Abbey during our stay - but there were plenty other options too, with more local walks arguably more rewarding. Wholeheartedly recommend. Slept our family of six very comfortably.

October 2015 at Granville House
This is the third time we have been here. The house is fantastic and the surrounding area is the perfect place for a peaceful walking holiday or a tour round the local towns.
The house is spacious and the most comfortable I have ever visited. This is more like a home than a rental - the sofas are soft and plumptious, the beds are extremely comfy, the Aga is a delight to cook on and the kitchen/diner is, without doubt the heart and soul of the place. It is warm here - the heating is super efficient, the Aga keeps everything warm in the kitchen anyway and there is a log burner as well.
The owners are friendly and really helpful. For example, Jeanne has put a calendar in the kitchen with all the local events throughout the year noted down - whilst we were the - salmon leaping at Stainforth; art exhibition in Gargrave; night-sky walk at Malham.
You will not be disappointed with this property.
