The Clifton Hotel

"We had a very small room but it had a sea view and we were only using it for after a concert at the open air theatre. It’s brilliantly located for that. The staff were friendly and efficient. I’d stay in this hotel again."

"The staff were fantastic and the location is stunning, with a beautiful view overlooking the bay below. The room was also very clean and the bed was extremely comfy. I would be aware that some of the rooms are not yet renovated, neither are the common spaces on the second and third floors so the photos don't always reflect the actual rooms. Hopefully when the renovations are complete, the rooms will all reflect the price."

"Lovely, lovely place. Comfortable bed and great shower in our beautifully decorated room. Two very slight downsides... The creaking of the laminate floor in the room and the full english breakfast could've used another egg, another slice of toast and another hash brown. Those are the most minor of gripes, though, and no way would either stop us returning. Excellent pub food served downstairs from a very extensive menu. Only a 15 minute bus ride into Scarborough centre - bus stop directly outside - where I'd expect to pay more than double for this standard of accommodation."

"We stayed a couple of yrs before and it was dirty needed decorating carpets etc but gave it another go this time and was pleasantly surprised . Smelt fresh everywhere new decor , carpets our family seaview room was big and lovely . Only thing we could say was windows need cleaning but overall great"

"Very welcoming staff, nothing too much trouble for him. Lovely quiet room at the rear, although I would imagine rooms at the front are quiet too as this is a peaceful crescent in Scarborough. Great facilities in the room, shower gel etc. tea/coffee making stuff too. Books to read in the room… very tastefully decorated & homely. We would certainly stay here again without hesitation. We were room only but there are plenty of places to get breakfast nearby. Train station a 5 minute walk away. Lots of restaurants & bars/pubs all within walking distance."

"We had a lovely room on the 3rd floor but it was very hot as a result of the recent high temperatures. This made sleep difficult until the early hours of the morning when the weather cooled. All the staff we encountered were great - very helpful, pleasant and cheerful. Breakfast was standard but absolutely no complaints. It is a very old property but some way of keeping the upper rooms cooler in high summer temperatures would be a major improvement.. perhaps by increasing the roof insulation"
