Gordon Street Suites: Carriage House, Suite D
Summary:
Located on Chatham Square and one block from Forsyth Park, guest are able to walk to many historic sites, tons of shopping and dining options. Relax in the lush courtyard at the Gordon Street Suites Carriage House. The home features a cozy living area, fully-equipped kitchen, loft bedroom with queen bed and en-suite bathroom.
The Space:
HISTORIC GORDON ROW TOWNHOUSES: Gordon Row was built in two phases between 1852 and 1854. In the first phase, the 3 or 4 houses on each end of the block were built and in the second phase the middle portion was built. There are a total of 15 houses in the row. Each of the 15 main houses facing Gordon Street had carriage houses behind them separated by walled courtyards.
Carriage Houses, also known as coach houses, were outbuildings, where wealthier residents kept their horses & buggies. The carriage drivers were responsible for the care of the horses and the equipment used. These drivers sometimes slept in the upper hay lofts of carriage houses. Horses, tack and the carriages were on ground level.
The Gordon Street Suites Carriage House is accessed from the LANE/alley that runs parallel to Gordon Street. In Savannah, we refer to "alleys" as LANES. Guests will enter a locked iron gate that leads into the lush courtyard and the private entrance to the free-standing carriage house.
The light filled home is 2-stories with a small but fully equipped kitchen and living room on the ground floor. Up the stairs is the loft-bedroom with queen bed, smart TV & private bathroom (walk-in shower). There is a spacious closet with iron/board and stackable laundry set.
The walled courtyard is shared with other guests in the building (private to outsiders) and there is a bistro table at your front door just for you to have an evening cocktail or an alfresco dinner.

This place was so quaint and clean! It was the perfect size for me and my husband and had all the amenities needed. It was a little bit of a walk down to the river from the room but we knew that in advance and just used Uber a few times bc it was cold at night. We would stay here again!

Lovely accommodations so close to everything. Get a parking pass from the city and you can park at any meter. We found parking just around the corner from the house. Easy-peasy.
House is small, but spotless and very well equipped. Bed, pillows, linens were quality and comfy. We ate all our meals in the condo. Appreciated the toaster and the very well stocked herb and spice shelf!
Historical Savannah is absolutely beautiful and it is all very walkable from the condo's location. 20 min or less to get all the way to River St. An easy walk to Kroger's for beer and wine. Very quiet neighbourhood.
Would absolutely stay here again.
This is the 4th time we have stayed here and we truly love the location and the charm of it. There are a few things, though, that we really wish would be addressed. 1)The mattress - I’m pretty sure it’s had the same mattress through all of our stays. There is no firmness, just feels like we’re sinking in a hole and we have to put pillows under the mattress just to sleep somewhat comfortably. 2)The air conditioning - it only goes down to 70 and that only cools the upstairs. It felt like there was no air flow downstairs and we had to use a box fan just to get a little relief from the heat. 3) No cable. There is free wifi to utilize streaming services but not everyone (including us) has subscriptions to streaming services so it really limits what can be watched - this includes no sports. We really love this place and want to continue staying here but may have to look elsewhere. It really is a great place, just wish a few things would be tweaked.
Our stay was excellent. The cottage was clean, well kept, had everything we needed and was conviently close to everything we wanted to do in Savannah. I highly recommend this stay for any couple trying to get away and enjoy Savannah.
We loved the area it was great for walking around and parking was available on the street. Very clean and the kitchen was well stocked with cooking utensils. I would definitely stay here again.
My daughter and I decided to take a weekend trip to Savannah, and this carriage house was perfect! The location was great, it was quiet and clean. We would definitely stay here again! :-)
Great space. Very comfortable. Had a little issue with tiny little ants. Call the apartment manager and she came right away into care of it. Would definitely stay here again

Reviewer Comments:
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the carriage house. Great location, clean, comfortable and quiet. Our only wish would have been a heads up on the alley entrance. Our first inclination when driving down the alley was what did we rent? What we learned very quickly is that Savannah’s small roads are really alleys and they are safe and add to the charm. Our own personal experience had always been do not go near alleys!
It was extremely HOT and the air conditioning ran the entire time but never cooled the house.

A/C Issues. Don’t stay.
This property, while in a great area to walk, is TERRIBLE! It’s summer time, time to use air conditioning. This unit, the owners, would not let us lower the temperature below 70. This bedroom is upstairs, cool air goes downstairs. It was SOOOOO hot and uncomfortable. And…. to top is off, the a/c unit was in HOLD mode ALL THE TIME and not working. Savannah is on the south. It is hot here.

The house was small and cute however very hot and uncomfortable. The thermostat is not able to go lower than 70. We utilized a ceiling fan and a small table fan and still sweating through the night. When I reached out for help with this I was told to utilize the fans and that she was not able to do anything else. We paid for 3 nights and stayed 1. We ended up staying in a hotel for the remainder of our stay. I reached out to VRBO for assistance and they spoke to the host and requested a refund for the remainder of our stay however it was declined. I was told that 70 was the lowest the ac could be set due to freezing issues however looking back at past reviews here (which I am kicking myself for not doing) there are other complaints of the same where host stated the ac cannot be lower than 70 due to electric bills and that the unit was replaced in March 2025. Confused why it would have freezing issues with a new unit. Would not recommend staying in this no insulated garage. Terrible experience. What a waste of money however enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Express! Check reviews on their website as well, again wish I did more research on this “sauna” prior to booking.
Perfect place for a couple who are planning on spending most of their time out and about.
Property was so cute and very clean! Bed was comfy. Had everything we needed, but we mostly spent our time walking around and enjoying Savannah. It is a bit further of a walk to get to riverwalk area but a very close walk to enjoy many of the squares and especially Forsyth Park. Kroger was a 10 min walk as well. Recommend Crystal Beer Parlor - definitely would stay here again!!!
SIMPLY ADORABLE, CLEAN AS A WHISTLE AND JUST AS DESCRIBED IN PICTURES AND VERBIAGE. PERFECT LOCATION FOR WALKING DISTANCE TO EVERYTHING IN SAVANNAH HISTORIC DISTRICT!
