we loved the view and the cottage was really cute! we just wished the water pressure was just as strong when you used the hot water. we would totally come back and stay as we were here for a wedding and wanted to enjoy it more!
Stay two nights in this beautiful property. The small cabin was cozy and quaint. Even arriving a bit late, the private roads were easy enough to navigate with the hosts directions (it does get a little bumpy though, be warned). The kitchenette was great. The view was gorgeous. A very happy weekend getaway for us.
My wife and I and our dog decided to do a little get away for new years for a few days from the busyness of life in San Diego. Just less than an hour away we found this cabin in Ramona just a few miles away from Julian. The cabin is nestled on a huge land with the main house seen right when you drive in. There are easy signage to see where to find the cabin based on top of a gorgeous view of the mountains. The drive into this property does go through dirt road so be aware of that when planning your trip. The cabin itself was simple and quaint. As you enter you go straight into the little kitchen area then the restroom and shower room connects you to your main bedroom. It is small but has everything you need from wifi, heater/ac and all the essentials. Storage space was limited but it didn’t bother us much. The land has some trails to hike and our dog enjoyed that. Overall it was a nice stay to enjoy the new year and the sunrise, sunset and stars at night were priceless!
We really enjoyed our stay and felt it was perfect for a short getaway. The house itself was very cute with lots of unique touches, but was slightly smaller than expected. The deck offers an incredible view. There were a couple of issues with the property, including a floor to ceiling tear in the sliding door that separated the bathroom from the bedroom which significantly impeded privacy, and a lock that wouldn't latch on one of the doors to the outside. We told the host and he let us know that he was already aware of those issues. He also charged us extra after our stay for bringing two dogs, though we noted that we were coming with two dogs when we booked the stay and were not made aware of the extra fee before booking. It was a little disappointing that we were penalized for something that we were not aware of but no effort was made to compensate for the issues that we experienced during our stay.
If you want to escape to serenity, this is the place. There is absolutely no noise. There are views that go on for forever. It’s a little cabin, just a bedroom, bathroom, tiny kitchen. It has everything you need. It’s got a fantastic patio. We enjoyed walking around the property and finding all the little secret places to sit. You do have to drive down a dirt road for a little over a mile. But it’s worth it for the peacefulness. The only thing I suggested to the owners is to change the carpet under the bed. It is well worn. You do have to clean the little house yourself before you leave which saves you the cleaning fee. It only took us about 30 minutes and it was quite easy. You just have to hope that the people prior to you cleaned it well.
The VRBO is quaint, situated between downtown Ramona and Julian. Highly recommend a car with some clearance that can handle unpaved roads. The cabin surprisingly packs a punch within its 200 square feet. We appreciated the small details - a heater outside in the sitting area, a stocked kitchen for cooking, and lovely suggestions from the host. However, the lack of storage space for our bags and toiletries proved to be an uncomfortable experience. The space is definitely intended for one or at max, two people.
The main reason for the average experience is the, in my opinion, excessive chore list we were required to complete "to avoid a cleaning fee". When I checked the breakdown of services, we were already charged AND paid for a cleaning fee. Per the host messages, we were expected to do some "light cleaning". Their definition of "light cleaning was "putting dirty linens and towels in the washer (and starting it), wiping down surfaces and pack and take your trash as well".
Upon arrival to the VRBO, we were met with a longer list of chores to complete. The list included taking the sheets off the bed, making the bed with new sheets (with picture instructions as to HOW the bed should be made), doing the laundry, sweeping the floors, and taking the trash with us to dispose of elsewhere.
There was also no hot tub, it was just a pool. If it was a hot tub, there were no directions provided on how to use it.
This is a great place to stay if you're looking for a quiet retreat. The setting is beautiful and private, which makes it a great weekend getaway. The only issue was that I couldn't get the TV to work.
Adorable house, gorgeous view! Bed was comfortable, water was hot, towels smelled clean! Loved our stay, wish we could have stayed longer. Only issue was it took a bit to figure out the rain shower head… but owner responded quickly and we got it to work. Our dog loved it too. Will return.
Well equipped kichenette with large toaster oven, microwave, fridge and electric griddle/hot plate was great for quick meals. We appreciated the candle and blankets available for hanging out on the deck at night.
The view was reason enough to stay; we loved it! The cabin is simple and small, but perfect for a getaway for two. We took bathing suits but weren't sure we'd get in the hot tub, so it was fine that it wasn't ready. Took a short hike and saw bunnies, southern blue jays and other birds, and a tarantula (not threatening at all). Lovely, lovely visit that I recommend.
SUPER private and peaceful! Exactly what we were looking for - to not have neighbors right next door or even see neighbors. It is an easy, no traffic drive to the town of Ramona and some wineries are really close. The few negatives were the shower pressure is really low, the deck gets afternoon sun and there was no umbrella or shade, and the outdoor furniture was not well maintained and had rat poop on it. But, it has everything you need, and if you want a cozy, peaceful getaway with gorgeous views this place is wonderful!
The host was incredibly responsive and the place is adorable! It was a perfect night and made it so easy for us to spend a few hours in Santa Ysabel (only a 13 min drive) before heading home.Things we loved in our very quick 17 hours:- easy to find (thanks to the host's directions!)- most beautiful view and lots of windows- wifi was strong- it was super clean- no bugs (which is a big deal for being surrounded by the good 'ol outdoors)- the little details inside that made it feel cozy and inviting- small, but very equipped kitchenThings to note for future guests:- it was pouring when we arrived and since there isn't a lot of space to sit inside to eat we had to get creative (with one of us on the yellow chair and one of us on the little stool under the bedroom window). there is A TON of outdoor seating and so much of it is covered but it was raining sideways and everything was soaked. next time it will be a beautiful place to sit outside and eat! - the bed says it's a queen, but one of us is 6'2" and he swears it was more like a full size (he also had to duck in the doorways)That said we will definitely be back once the weather is nicer!
