While I booked this hotel, it is currently under renovations. I wish Cesar would have let me know before as I arrived in the dark with my Uber driver telling me that this is not a safe area. Thanks to the drivers help we finally established that I was staying at Blue Door Housing instead. It’s a beautiful old building and Cesar is truly an amazing host. Didn’t have potable water the first night but after complaining, Cesar made sure I had some the following day. If a message was sent to me where exactly I was staying and if I had potable water the first night then it would have been 5 stars. You really can’t beat how friendly the host was. I also don’t think it’s a dangerous area despite what the Uber driver said as it was a very quiet but I had to Uber to restaurants at night.
Caesar and Hermana, the couple who run this hotel went above and beyond in their efforts as hosts. They are very sweet people who will help you in any way that they can. At the end of my trip. they took me to the Old Quito Aeroport to catch the bus to the New Aeroport and charged me a very reasonable price. Senora Hermana went inside with me to make sure I got my ticket and I got on board the bus.
I was by myself, but the next time I come to Quito, I'll be with my husband and we will always stay here every time we come to Quito (they also own Blue Door Housing across the street, it's the same business).
The hotel is painted nicely with lots of art on the walls, and very clean, and by US/Canadian/West European economic standards, it is very affordable.
The hosts Cesar and Hermana were wonderful! They were also full of useful information about Quito and environs. They and their son Oliver were very accommodating, attending to my every need.
Casa Caesar is in a great location. It’s in the older part of Quito which has colonial architecture, museums, churches, and markets. Alejandro and his father were great hosts who accommodated for flexible plans, suggested places to see and excursions, and assisted with arranging transportation. There was also an environment to meet other travelers and exchange experiences.
My experience here has been wonderful. From the second I arrived, I felt as if I was a member of the family. This hostel is family operated and makes sure you have everything you could need, be it directions, food, or water. Plus, it is only 3 blocks from the basilica! I will be coming back at the end of July, and for years to come.
