I booked this in mid-December. On January 4th, the Host sent me a message in the app saying this particular place was unavailable, but she had another place if I wanted it. I was traveling internationally on January 4th, and the notification email came across looking like a regular VRBO marketing email, so I didn’t see it. She didn’t cancel it at that time, maybe because she was hoping I’d rent her other place instead. When my trip approached, I was getting emails from VRBO saying my trip was approaching and I should get check-in instructions soon. When the day of my trip arrived, I wondered why I hadn’t gotten check-in instructions yet, so I opened up the app (which still showed I was booked for this unit) and saw the message from January 4th. I messaged her, feeling desperate as I was leaving for the airport in an hour, and she told me it was unavailable. I scrambled to find another place in the Uber on the way to the airport, and luckily I found one of the last available properties as this was a popular weekend in Phoenix. I then messaged AND called her asking when she was going to cancel the reservation and she blamed it on VRBO not having “processed” it yet, but that she would see it done. I enjoyed my stay at the replacement property, and gave her three business days after I got back, still no cancellation. I had to call VRBO myself, and when they read our message communications, they cancelled it immediately and I received my refund instantly.Beware.
