Palencia Hotels, St. Augustine

"Stayed there a week and while while looking for houses in St. Johns and the stay was nothing to write home about. The House Keeping and the communication between and from the staff at the hotel does need improvement. Even though room "refreshing" is said to be done every alternate day, we had to chase these guys to get our room "refreshed" after 4 days. The pool was nice, but make sure to ask for towels before you go, as there were many times none were stocked by the pool. Lastly, if you are planning on working form the property, be prepared. Not only is the internet not great but we had a whole day of no internet (where folks could not check in and had to be escorted to their rooms to open them). So, I used my phone as a hot spot. Definitely an eye opener. "

"We were here 4 nights and the hotel was nice. Breakfast was good and staff were friendly. It's in a great location. The Mission Nombre De Dios is in walking distance. So is the Old Store Museum area where you can purchase tickets and catch the trolley. The Fountain of Youth and Magnolia Avenue are right behind the hotel, so also in walking distance and it was nice walking under the trees. The trolley stops at the hotel; which was really nice at the end of the day, after visiting the historic downtown and fort. The fort and town were too far for us to walk, so the second day we rode the trolly. I would defined stay here again. "

"Every staff member was friendly and helpful. Enjoyed trivia in the bar. Hotel is pet friendly. Nice firepit area and pool with tiki bar. Hotel could use a bit of refresh but no complaints. "

"We had such an “amazing” experience that we lasted a full 4–5 hours before leaving. From the moment we walked in, it was clear cleanliness was more of a suggestion than a standard. The floors were sticky, the headboard looked like it hadn’t been wiped down in years, and the sofa was covered in stains that I didn’t even want to think about. The bathroom? Let’s just say the mold in the shower was thriving. The room also doubled as a walk-in freezer thanks to a broken AC unit that was stuck blasting cold air. Naturally, the bed came with what can only be described as decorative sheets—no real blankets. When we asked for another blanket, we were given a thin, stained sheet that somehow made things worse. After a few hours of freezing, avoiding surfaces, and questioning our life choices, we decided to cut our losses and leave. If you’re looking for a place that redefines “basic cleanliness” and “comfort,” this might be for you. Otherwise, I’d strongly recommend staying literally anywhere else."

"My stay was disappointing from the start. I arrived early due to an early flight, hoping to check in, but the front desk told me my room wasn’t ready and to check back later. I did, had lunch/took a walk. Despite multiple attempts, I was told it wasn’t worth coming back again, which felt dismissive, especially since I’m 7 months pregnant with back pain and needed to lay down. I was hoping they'd contact housekeeping and prioritize a room, but that initiative didn’t happen. When we finally checked in at 3:50 PM, the outlets at the desk didn’t work, forcing us to use inconvenient outlets by the bed. There was also hair in the shower, leaving a poor first impression. Throughout our stay, our room wasn’t cleaned daily. One day, after the beach, I returned to an unclean room. When I tried to speak to the cleaning staff, I felt ignored, and on another day, I politely asked for cleaning, but the staff turned away and seemed dismissive. There also seemed to be two supervisors in a room that housekeeping was working on that ignored me and were sitting inside on their phones. Overall, interactions with staff were negative, and it was misleading to learn that beach chairs and umbrellas weren’t included and had to be rented separately, adding unexpected costs. I had hoped for a better experience, but unfortunately, it was not up to expectations. I do not recommend staying here."
