"Staff were extremely helpful and welcoming from the moment we arrived. They collected our luggage and took it to our room, and were able to answer questions about the town and getting around. Breakfast was amazing every day! It was one of my favourite things about our stay. The choice was incredible and the food was delicious. The dining area has excellent views of the volcano too. The hotel is quiet, and a perfect location for exploring Antigua. Our friends were travelling with their baby, so Porta Hotel is definitely family friendly. "

"This was one of my favorite hotel stays in 30 years of global travel. I’m a budget traveler that values natural beauty and unique locations over fancy amenities or 5 star service, so that’s my reference point. La Casa del Mundo is located on a beautiful part of Lake Atitlan with amazing views throughout the day and night. Being on a cliff, you’ll walk up and down a lot of stairs, but there are many places to have a seat and enjoy the views while you catch your breath (if needed). Also, being on a cliff, there were several jumping spots into the lake. My wife and I walked to both close villages and enjoyed slightly cheaper options on those excursions. The staff were very service minded and spoke much better English than my limited Spanish. Also, though we stayed in a budget room with a shared bathroom 10 feet away, it was no problem. Also, the shower was a separate room than the toilet so that made sharing very easy. Lastly, the grounds are beautiful and my wife and I took scores of amazing photos of the grounds and the views of the lake and volcanoes. It’s a bit remote to get to, but if you’re game for getting a bit off the beaten path and are able bodied to handle a lot of stairs, I highly recommend La Casa del Mundo!"
