"We stayed at DaTea for 12 nights in early August. It is located in the quiet village of Olzai, right in the middle of the island, far from massive hotel complexes and mass tourism, while all the surrounding beaches are easily reachable by rental car within an hour or two. We got to visit a different beach each day. The stay was incredibly pleasant; everything was new and clean, and the landlady is an absolute gem! We would love to come back!!!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Ottana?
The best area to stay in Ottana is in the town centre itself, particularly around the historic heart.

Ottana is a small, traditional Sardinian town, and its centre offers a genuine local experience. You'll find a few local shops, cafes, and restaurants clustered around the main square and along Via Roma. The Basilica of San Nicola is a prominent landmark, and the streets are generally quiet and easy to navigate on foot.

For couples looking for a peaceful escape and an authentic cultural experience, staying in the town centre is ideal. You're perfectly placed to enjoy the local pace of life, sample regional cuisine, and explore the ancient traditions of the Barbagia region.
When is the best time to go to Ottana?
The best time to go to Ottana, Sardinia, is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October) months.

During spring, the weather is pleasantly warm, typically ranging from 18°C to 25°C, and the Sardinian landscape is lush and green with wildflowers in bloom. This period is ideal for visitors who enjoy outdoor activities like hiking and cycling in the surrounding Gennargentu mountains or exploring the archaeological sites without the intense heat of summer. You'll find fewer crowds compared to the peak summer season, making for a more relaxed experience.

Autumn also offers comfortable temperatures, generally between 20°C and 28°C, and the sea remains warm enough for swimming until mid-October. This season is great for travellers looking to experience local festivals, particularly those celebrating the grape harvest or traditional Sardinian cuisine. The reduced tourist numbers also mean better availability and potentially better value for accommodations and activities.

For those interested in the unique Carnival traditions of Ottana, visiting in February or March can be a captivating experience, though the weather will be cooler.
