About this property
The ultimate secluded Holiday Cottage
Tigh Beg Croft self catering holiday cottage has to be one of the ultimate secluded Highland hideaways - there are no garden fences, only the open land and the sea to keep you in and amused. This classic 'get away from it all' location near Oban in Argyll is set in some fifty acres of informal hill land and shore line giving you some spectacular walking country.
The croft and this part of the coastline were used in the 1968 filming of 'Ring of Bright Water' and more recently in the final scenes of 'Enigma', based on the Robert Harris thriller. We feel very privileged to be able to offer Tigh Beg Croft as a holiday cottage and short break destination to enable our guests to totally unwind and relax. The croft has been recently renovated and completely refurbished to give you all the home comforts you would expect, making a great holiday destination at any time of year.
This special place is quietly situated at the sea entrance to Loch Feochan, with spectacular views down the 'Firth of Lorn', just three miles further down the glen from Lagnakeil lodges and yet only six miles from Oban with all its quality amenities, shops and restaurants.
Access is by a private track road of about one half miles with the final approach over unsurfaced track - perfect for four wheel drive, but not essential! no low profile cars though. You can also access Tigh Beg by sea.
A country pub is situated further up the glen offering fine home cooked food and ales with informal music nights during the season.

Absolutely the best location for a peaceful and restful break. Whatever the weather it’s the most beautiful and quiet place to stay, amazing scenery, we’ve booked for next year!

Fantastic
The road to the cottage is an adventure in itself but when you arrive there it’s quickly forgotten. The cottage is in a perfect location but with Oban only about 20 minutes away by car. The views from the cottage are so enchanting that we spent most of our time just chilling out and watching the world go by. We were there for only 3 nights which wasn’t enough as we have fallen for the place and have booked for Christmas. We have stayed in many beautiful cottages on the west coast of Scotland and this is definitely one of the best. Would highly recommend it to anyone.

Time well lost
An escape into enchantment. An adventurous road. A week of wonderful. An isolation that absorbed the worries of the world and left me in a completely carefree bliss. Highly recommended unless it interferes with my plans to return.
Upon arrival at the gates, a herd of deer greeted us. The cottage, the appointments, the location, the tranquility did not disappoint. As birdwatchers, we enjoyed morning walks with various birdsongs. We would definitely return.

A magic place!
We absolutely loved the place: The view from the bedroom, the excellent kitchen, the most comfortable bathroom, the fireplace! The surrounding is magic: the view from the beach onto the see, the sheep and highland cows in the own garden, the walks through the hills, the forrest, the boat on the mountain! Thank you Gemma and Sandy for the nice welcome. We will visit again!

Beautiful hideaway on the west coast
Lovely location to be away from it all, very peaceful but still close enough to Oban. Such an amazing surprise that the Otter Movie was filmed here! The heated drying rack was a great plus and helped us dry our rain soaked shoes and clothes. The kids loved to fish off the rocky cliffs. We will return - next time for maybe more than one week. We had too much luggage and taking it up the small path on our departure in the rain was no joke Definitely the highlight of our three weeks in Scotland.

Remote could be confused with 'out of the way'
Tigh Beg cottage is unquestionably delightful.
Accessibility is definitely an issue.
The track is pretty rough on most vehicles.
Price is on the high side for size and amenities.
Having a few more basic condiments in kitchen would be good.
Operation of TV remote and DVD player confusing.
It most certainly lends to relaxation and enjoying the beauty of nature

Tigh Beg is a gem
What a location!
Truely magical..
The house is really cosy, the beds are comfortable, the shower is good and everything provided for in the kitchen.
But that view!!
Going down to the rocky beach, walking in the direct area...
Only a 20 min. drive from Oban, but we made sure we took enough groceries for a week because we did not want to leave!
We were worned about the road up there, but is not all that bad. We drive a Ford Fiesta and had no problem getting to the cottage. Had fun with putting our luggage in the wheelbarrow :)
Owners are very friendly and respond very quickly to your emails.
Leaving here put a tear to my eyes...

Stunning location & lovely secluded cottage - perfect for nature lovers who like the quiet life
We had such a wonderful week at this hideaway. What a stunning location. We are avid nature-lovers and didn't leave the place for the whole week, just spent our time roaming the shores looking at the views, ever-changing weather & fabulous wildlife. This place is for quiet people who want to soak up the location and its wildlife. We saw otters, seals, golden eagles, white-tailed eagles, peregrine, buzzards & ravens nesting nearby, curlews & oyster catchers were a regular, goldcrests nesting in the garden & much more. We're taking away some very special wildlife memories, especially the otters!
The cottage was better than expected, with good wifi (for emails, light browsing & wifi calls), good heating, comfy bed (although only a double), good hot water, great fridge freezer, dishwasher, good oven & hob & TV was fine. The track to the cottage wasn't a problem & we don't have a 4x4. It had everything we needed & more. As others have commented on, take enough food & extra loo roll so that you don't have to leave the place! We're just about to book for next year!

Stayed for 3 weeks alone in the cottage to calm down - perfect place to do so
a beautiful place to stay! magic! The cottage is not luxuary, but it is clean and has everything you need.
If you like to be isolated and don’t mind a bit of a rough ride on a road/track to access the isolation then this is the place to go. We loved it bringing our kayaks with us to enjoy the water. Fantastic place!

An "away from it all" gem of a cottage
A peaceful well kept secluded cottage which more than lived up to our high expectations. The cottage is clean, warm and well equipped and has a lovely deck which is in the sun most of the day. Due to unprecedented hot dry weather prior to our stay we had to use water sparingly but this did not detract from our enjoyment of the holiday, we were advised beforehand and given the option to rebook or cancel if we wished. The hosts supplied us with bottled water and kept us advised regarding the water situation and answered our queries quickly.
The track down to the cottage is not a problem in an ordinary car if taken slowly. Although the cottage is quite remote it is within a short drive of Oban and we found plenty to see and do in the area.
A wonderful cottage to get away from it all surrounded by beautiful scenery, walks and wildlife. .

Magical
I had wonderful memories of staying here for three weeks as a 7 year old in the late 60's. A few years ago it dawned on me that it might still be possible to rent it. I am so very glad that I was able to go back and share the experience with my wife and one of my grown-up children. Even though it was raining when we arrived, it is such a beautiful setting that that the weather hardly mattered. I don't remember anything about how the interior was last time, but am told we children slept in the loft conversion that is now closed to guests (I'm assuming this was done fairly recently as some older reviews refer to sleeping more than the current 4). The croft has been done up to a good modern standard that is well-equipped, comfy and clean inside. I personally would have preferred something a bit more ramshackle to match the away from it all feeling, but that might just be me and this place really isn't about the interior at all. There is a nice area to sit outside when the weather allows and an open fire in the living area for when the weather is not so good. The track is still a little intimidating the first time (in the 1960's my grandma refused to stay with us after the first day due to the track!) but it is fine with a normal car so long as you take it slow. I'd allow 45 minutes to get to Oban, though better still to stock up and stay put. Thank you so much to the owners for allowing others to experience this place. Please continue to do so. I hope to come back again, but with a shorter gap than the 55 years it took this time.

Lovely small cottage with an incredible view. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back some day. Be mindful how much stuff you bring as you have to carry it to the house and back.

Getting away from it all
3rd stay and there will be more. The cottage is idyllically placed and I was disappointed to leave on day four as we didn't bring enough milk so had to go to the outside world. Wild life all around and the only alarm call was a lamb calling for it's mother at 5am one day. Buzzards nest on the ridge above us. Had a great meal at EE-USK when ventured into Oban for the day for a sea safari but if I was lucky enough to not move for the whole week I wouldn't object. Relaxed before I'd unpacked and refreshed by the time we left. I don't want to recommend it because you might take a week that I want, but if you go you won't regret it. Road has a couple of rough points so a lowrider will ground but you don't need an SUV. 5* isn't enough for this location.

Fabulous cottage & location but access appalling
Beautiful cottage and a great location with local wildlife on the doorstep. Clean and well maintained with everything you need. Unfortunately due to the appalling condition of the access road won’t be visiting again which is such a shame but probably the worst and most dangerous access we’ve travelled on.
