Liked: Cleanliness
The hotel has a beautiful setting and is convenient for walking to the lake. It also offers an outdoor hot spring with good water. However the food quality is average with limited options, and this could be improved.
The staff was extremely nice. The location of the hotel was awesome too. The surrounding scenery was amazing. You can take the bus from Nikko and it will drop you off right in front the hotel. The natural hot springs was great too. It’s more of Japanese styled resort if you ever been to one. Hospitality is at an all time high. I will definitely recommend this place and will visit again.
We were greeted with very nice and courteous staff. they were so nice and helpful. Food, Onsen and overall experience was excellent. We love the extremely well run hotel. I could see the Hotel GM always walking around the hotel. Thanks for the great experience.
I have stayed in this hotel few years ago at that time it was old. Now happy to see it has been done a complete renovation. Room, onsen, dinning area are all excellent. The buffet dinner is very delicious.
Restaurant and housekeeping services were exceptional. Hotel is well maintained and the front desk check in process was quick and friendly. Room peaceful and quiet with great views of mountain side and lake. Recommend 4th floor if possible. 403 was a great room and lots of amenities (e.g., cups, tea pot, robes, phone plugs, etc.). Osen. bath 1st floor was very clean too. Bikes available. Parking for rental cars. Small gift shop and vending machines with food options. Must get breakfast and dinner option. The food and service is excellent.

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
A strict lodging!
This hotel is based around the onsen spa, such that there is no bathroom in the rooms, yet the onsen opening hours were difficult : 05h- 09h, then 15h-24h. The staff were very rigid, and the strict operating hours of the restaurant facility were also difficult.
The breakfast and dinner buffets were good and at a good value/price ratio.
It was a surpy that rooms did not have shower facilities. Can’t imagine if the young dependent kids that cannot go to the Onsen area to bath as not the same sex as parents. need to have private shower facilities in public areas. Since use of Onsen is compulsory, as no shower available in rooms, should not have a separate charge for its use.
Had a bad experience with the billing, some mistakes occurred and took time to rectify, fortunately we check the bill else would be over charged without realising.
Other than this, the location was fantastic.
Hotel is next to a small lake about 15 minutes past Chuzenji. You can walk around the lake, fish, hike and rent a boat, and it feels more “off the beaten path” while close to main Nikko attractions. Hotel is clean, updated, with kind staff. Hotel onsen is simple but offers both indoor and outdoor baths. Slight sulfur smell but did wonders for my arthritis. Definitely would go again. We opted to stay and extra night because it was so comfortable. If you hike after checking out use the free town foot spa before heading home.
No shower or bathroom in the bedroom. Couldt not use public bath due to tattoos, so have no option to clean myself.
Rooms are absolutely filthy.
Dinner is 30000 yen pp which is ridiculous.
Extra charges for hotel amenities such as table tennis.
No idea how this got graded as a 4 star hotel. Wouldn't stay here again if I was paid to.
