For most visitors, the best area to stay in Nienstedt is the charming Old Town, known locally as Altstadt, which forms the historic heart of the village.

The Altstadt is Nienstedt's main hub, characterised by its narrow cobblestone streets, half-timbered houses, and a peaceful village square. Most of the local shops, traditional taverns, and eateries are concentrated around the Marktplatz, which often hosts small markets. The nearby St. Martin's Church is a prominent landmark, and you'll find the local museum just a short stroll away.

Couples often find the Altstadt particularly appealing for a romantic break. The quiet streets and historic setting offer a relaxed atmosphere, great for leisurely walks and enjoying meals at intimate local restaurants.

The best time to visit Nienstedt is typically during the late spring (May to early June) and late summer (September to early October) when the weather is pleasant and the natural surroundings are at their most appealing.

For travellers who appreciate outdoor activities and comfortable temperatures, May and early June offer mild weather, with average daily temperatures ranging from 15°C to 20°C. The countryside around Nienstedt is lush and green during this period, making it ideal for exploring the hiking trails in the nearby Harz Mountains or enjoying scenic drives. The longer daylight hours also allow for more extensive sightseeing.

September and early October are also excellent times to visit. The summer crowds have thinned, and the autumn colours begin to emerge, particularly in the surrounding forests, creating beautiful landscapes. Temperatures are still comfortable, averaging between 10°C and 18°C, which is great for walking or cycling.
