One of the most disastrous hotel stays I’ve ever had, The Lodge is a modern hotel that lacks good design or sensible management.
We booked here so that my family could have an accessible room. Check-in was quick and easy, and the staff was friendly.
Rooms are small, especially for a modern hotel, and are a quite worn, probably by raucous race-goers. The fixtures are wobbly on the walls, and the toilets barely flush.
Breakfast is hearty if you want a Full English, and otherwise filling if you opt for Continental. The dining area has music playing, along with the blare of multiple televisions, so meals aren’t a relaxing experience.
Parking is plentiful, but the hotel is a bit far from anything. You’ll need to drive 10 mins to get to a grocery store or the restaurants in town.
Finally, our final night at the hotel there was only one person on shift. She was responsible for managing the front desk, tending bar, and cooking food, serving it, and bussing. She was understandably overwhelmed.
It doesn’t make sense that any manager would leave a young woman to do all that alone. I and other guests jumped in to pour drinks and clean dishes. What a mess! When another staff member arrived to help out, there weren’t any “thank yous” handed out, and I was made to feel that my presence washing dishes was unwanted.
It’s a shame that such a new hotel has been run so poorly. Don’t stay here if you have other options.
