Our first time in a Ryokan and my first time in Japan. Now at the end of our journey, I think we started at the best of traditional Ryokans. Beautiful location, in the forest and deer all around. Very welcoming staff and we were looked after so well by our hostess, who was lovely and helped us with everything..she even spoke some English! Quite a personal experience. The meals were exquisite to look at and eat (breakfast and dinner). The rooms were very large and the views so restful, all...

A large and simply furniture room overlooking the city. Very cheap Japanese meals downstairs although tastes average. Close to Ninjia Museum which was the main reason for our stay. Only stayed for one night but was pleasant.

Great staff

Great hotel.

You never know which one to go with when scrolling through the countless options on the Internet, but we are very glad we stayed at Asukasou. The people were genuinely friendly and helpful and the room was really nice - the best futon I've ever slept on! There is an open air rooftop bath that is a must do if you stay here. Be warned: those travelling with English only may have trouble finding this inn as the sign (I think) was only in Japanese.

Our room was in the modern wing, and while modern only in the eighties sense, it was spacious and had a balcony overlooking a garden with mature trees. The towels were thinner than in the chain hotels but the cleanliness was of a high standard. We chose this hotel for its history and were not disappointed. The old part was a step into the early 20th century. While restoration would refresh the public rooms, if you can overlook that, you will find the hotel charming. Eating in is overpriced....

Great location very close to the JR train station, comfy bed and good shower. Staff were helpful with arranging luggage forwarding services to the next hotel. Includes complimentary amenities like tea and bath salts.

This is a seriously good hotel. Vastly exceeded my expectations!

We stayed for one night for the Japanese ryokan experience. Tried the Japanese style set menu - very tasty and great experience (11 courses - very filling ). Some of the staff spoke English which was a great help us us as our Japanese was limited. Our room had an outdoor private bath which was great to soak in after a few hours walking around Nara park. Getting to and from the ryokan was simple as long as you called ahead to book the courtesy shuttle which goes back and forth from the 2 Nara...

The hospitality, the property and the food were exceptional! If you have the opportunity to take the dinner and breakfast option, I would highly recommend it, absolutely fabulous! This is a great property for those wanting to submerge themselves into Japanese culture.
