See the best of Argentine art and enjoy a free concert at one of Mendoza’s favourite attractions.

Visit the Municipal Museum of Modern Art and admire the talent of local and national contemporary artists. See unique temporary exhibitions and admire the work of Argentine favorites such as Berni, Spilimbergo and Gambarte in the permanent collection. Visit the museum on weekends to attend a free concert or theatrical performance.

The museum was opened in 1967 with support from two large grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. It moved to its current location in 1991 and is one of Mendoza’s most popular attractions with locals and visitors alike.

Appreciate the breadth of art from the Mendoza region in the Permanent Hall. This 100-foot-long (31-meter) space features art from the Mendoza region since 1930. View works created by great Argentine artists such as Scafati, Spilimbergo and Berni. Don’t miss the Pérez Celis collection. Celis created sculptures and paintings with a modernist style using geometric forms and indigenous colors.

Enter the Engraving Gallery to see a collection of woodcuts crafted using a range of carving techniques. Investigate the two temporary exhibition spaces to see what is showing during your visit. The program is varied and often contains a good mix of forms, so you may see sculpture, photography, contemporary painting and more.

Visit on a weekend evening to attend one of the free concerts or theatrical performances. Follow your visit to the museum with a snack in one of the surrounding cafés or enjoy a stroll through the square.

The Municipal Museum of Modern Art is located in Independence Square. It is closed on Mondays. A small donation is required for entry. To find out more about the artworks, visit the museum on a weekday morning and take one of the free guided tours. You can also learn more about the lives of the artists in the Ricardo Tudela Municipal Library, also in Independence Square.
