About this property
Poppy Cottage - sleeps 4 guests in 2 bedrooms
Poppy Cottage sits on a quiet, residential road, with equally pretty and ancient dwellings to either side and across the road, with open countryside on the doorstep. Guests step from the road directly into the living room-dining area where there are hooks for coats and room to leave shoes and boots.
On the ground floor of this immaculate and stylish cottage is a living-dining room, featuring an original fireplace with a wood burning stove, polished limestone floor tiles and comfy seating for four guests. Three steps lead through to a bright and light, fully equipped kitchen, with a back door out to the courtyard patio. On the first floor is the family bathroom and a double bedroom with a king-size bed, and on the second floor is the more spacious master bedroom with a king-size bed and original, exposed A-frame beams.
At the rear of the cottage there is a sunny courtyard with a beautiful acer tree and a dining table with four chairs. Ground Floor
Living Room-Dining Area: As you step in through the front door, you'll find hooks for coats and room to leave shoes and boots. Directly ahead is a delightful living room featuring an original fireplace with a wood-burning stove and a window seat just wide enough to perch on. The room is furnished with a 2-seater sofa, armchair, and button-back, velvet day chair with occasional tables to rest a book or drink on. There is a 33" smart TV to one side of the fireplace and a dining table and four chairs to the other side. Set to one side is an alcove with an antique drinks cabinet, with glasses at the ready for guests to pour their favourite tipple.
Kitchen: From the dining area head up three stone steps and through a latched door into the kitchen - mind your head on the original beam as you step through. This lovely, light room is equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, Nespresso coffee machine, washer/dryer, fridge with freezer compartment and a butler's sink overlooking the courtyard patio. A door opens from the kitchen out to the courtyard making it super convenient for al fresco dining.
A latched door in the living room opens to carpeted stairs with a handrail that lead up to the first floor where you'll find Bedroom One and the family bathroom. Note that the stairs are steep and unsuitable for guests with restricted mobility. First Floor
Bedroom One: This chic bedroom, with minimalist styling, sits at the front of the house, overlooking Chapel Street and the neighbouring ancient rooftops. It features a king-size bed with bedside lights set against a deep charcoal grey wall, a full-length, antique mirror and a double, built-in wardrobe.
Family Bathroom: The small but stylish bathroom has Fired Earth tiles and Burlington bathroom ware, including a three-quarter-size bath with a shower over the bath, a WC, and a washbasin with a towel rail and a mirror above. Second Floor
Head through a latched door from the landing and up a carpeted staircase with a handrail to the second floor/converted attic and Bedroom Two.
Bedroom Two: The striking master bedroom features the attic's original beams, which are painted white, giving this room a beautifully light and spacious feel - made even lighter when the sunshine streams through the Velux windows on either side of the room (all with blinds). The bedroom is furnished with a king-size bed on a wooden, sleigh bed frame, with bedside tables and reading lamps, a chest of drawers (not shown) with a mirror and a hanging rail with hangers.Outside
The cottage has a secluded and pretty courtyard garden with a tall acer tree in one corner. The courtyard is at the rear of the property and accessed through the Kitchen. A table and four chairs with cushions are provided for guests, making it a lovely spot for breakfast, lunch or supper. There is a handy, retractable washing line for guests' use and a shed where the BBQ is stored, and muddy boots can be kept.

Cottage was lovely and exactly as seen/described online. Immaculate when we arrived and in a great location near Stow-on-the-wold. Only disappointment was the lack of Christmas decorations as it stated on the website all homes would be decorated seasonally, and as we had gone up for Christmas markets it was a shame there was none up. However had a brilliant stay nonetheless and would book again.

Excellent stay
Poppy cottage is incredibly well situated, handy for Stow and a stone’s throw from The Fox, a lovely pub with a fire and great food. The cottage is well-sized and has everything you could want, including a little courtyard that catches the sun.

A lovely, cottage weekend.
Whilst it slept 4, we booked it as a couple. We chose this cottage as we wanted the cosey, experience but wanted a pub in walking distance. The home itself was really clean and super cosey. Heating was on for when we arrived which was nice. There was also milk and cake for our arrival which was a lovely touch. The bedding in the second floor bedroom was so lovely. We had a lovely time.
We couldn't find a chopping board, unsure if that was just us not being able to find it or whether there was one or not.

Cute cottage
lovely little cottage, as expected. Beds very comfortable, bathroom a little small but expected for a small country cottage. Could do with a little attention to soft furnishings to give it the real wow factor.

Super cottage, in lovely location
We stayed here for 5 nights as a family of four with youngish children. It’s a great little cottage, warm and cosy, with all of the equipment you would expect. The only thing that might be a consideration for any taller folk are the ceiling and door heights as it’s generally quite low (as a cottage should be!) but anyone over 6 foot will be stooping a fair bit. Broadwell is a really idyllic village and the pub (Fox Inn) is phenomenal. Nice walk (or short drive into Stow for shops etc).

Cozy and well located base in the Cotswolds
We are a family of four who stayed two nights at Poppy’s Cottage. The cottage is well located to explore the Cotswolds, and is in a very small, locals town called Broadwell, 5 min drive to Stow-on-the-Wold, 7 min drive to Burton-on-the-Water. We loved having cozy fires every night, extremely comfortable beds, and amenities like coffee pods and milk in the fridge. The heat took awhile to warm the place up, and the internet was not consistent, but neither worried us too much. We’d recommend staying here and would love to be back!

A relaxing break in a beautiful village
Very well appointed cottage with super comfortable beds and luxury bedlinen. The Fox pub in the village is so close by and has really interesting dishes as well as the pub standards. We had a couple of issues in resolving our requests promptly with Bolthole Retreats and some items were unavailable for the welcome pack, however the housekeeper did rectify this. Bedside tables in bedroom 2 would have been useful, and also a few more items for kitchen including salad bowl and more choice of utensils.

Quaint Cottage
What a delight little cottage in the true Cotswolds village unspoilt by the masses who clog the like of Stow that is a short drive or lovely walk away.
The cottage is lovely, a challenge at time if over 6ft!! Very well equipped and comfortable with a small sunny courtyard when the weather is right.
The cottage is small but does everything you need it do with a classic country charm.
The village has lovely walks around it and from Weds - Sun there is no need to leave the village as the The Fox serves fab food and local ales from Donnington Brewery.
Visit their brewery, it’s in a beautiful setting and of course great ales.
May book for a winter get away to make the most of the log burner!

Peace and Tranquility
Poppy cottage is a small, well appointed terraced cottage in the beautiful hamlet of Broadwell. Although it lacks garden space it does have a tiny sunny rear courtyard. The cottage has many original features & quality fittings with two steep staircases up to the bedrooms, tricky for anyone with mobility issues. The bedroom on the top floor has original beams with very restricted head height in places. A real bonus staying at the cottage is The Fox pub being within 5 minutes walk, overlooking the village green & providing a warm welcome and fabulous fresh food. The peace and quiet of this lovely place is so very special.

Nearly excellent.
A very well situated cottage, nicely furnished, in generally good decorative order, with very comfortable beds and bedding. Generous hot water, easy to use shower, reliable wi fi, and convenient dishwasher. Street parking immediately outside (subject to space being available).
A few things stated to be in the cottage weren’t, we couldn’t get the washing machine to work, and the garden table had rotten bits. A few other maintenance issues.
The very steep and narrow staircases and low upstairs beams would make this unsuitable for anyone with mobility problems.
Otherwise, just a bit of attention would make this an excellent stay.

The most beautiful cottage
Poppy Cottage is the most beautifully appointed cottage and in a wonderful spot in the Cotswolds. We stayed over Christmas and were greeted with a welcome pack full of essentials and rooms all tastefully decorated for the festive period, which made our stay very special and memorable. The nearby villages were a delight, with lots of lovey places to eat. We all enjoyed our stay and would wholeheartedly recommend to others and would most definitely return. Thank you Poppy Cottage for a most wonderful Christmas.

A 2 night birthday stay in the Cotswolds
My partner & I stayed for two nights at Poppy Cottage for my birthday in January. Broadwell is a very pretty village & the cottage is gorgeous! Very traditional & tasteful with a log burner. The bedrooms are very comfortable. A kitchen which provides all your needs. Good heating & hot water for the bath/ shower.
Lovely walks from the cottage, especially the circular Monarch Way (approx 7 miles)
I would definitely recommend Poppy Cottage! Karen
Lovely old Cotswold cottage! Cottage was clean and well maintained, very comfortable. Great location in a quiet village with a pub in easy walking distance. Would defiantly stay again, we all enjoyed our time here.
Lovely cottage. Could have done with more utensils /pans in the kitchen as the selection was small, both in that the weren't many options, and those that were there were tiny. Made cooking for the four of us a logistical challenge. Otherwise cottage was great, host gave us extra time on checkout which was invaluable for syncing baby naps with us leaving.

A cosy stay in Poppy Cottage
We had a lovely stay in Poppy Cottage
Only suggestions we would make are
A kitchen cloth to start us off would have been helpful and some coat hangers in the 1st floor bedroom.
The hot water tap in the kitchen did not work
The pans were losing their nonstick coating so no good to use.
We were staying in the cottage as we were part of the wedding party for a wedding in the village chuch and reception nearby. The cottage was perfectly located for that and the Fox Inn and Debbie was hugely accommodating over the check out time which was much appreciated. Would recommend for a small group.

Post-Christmas break
A very cosy, comfortable cottage in a small village just outside Stow. EWell served with an excellent pub just 5 mins walk away, The Fox, offering great food in a traditional Cotswolds country pub setting, and under 2 miles to the big Tesco and all the local shops in Stow.
The cottage is well equipped with a decent, if small, bathroom/toilet and very comfy beds. Excellent bedding and good towels. Very effective, controllable central heating, lots of hot water, and a great woodburning stove in the living room make it ideal for a winter stay. Full kitchen, albeit with limited storage space and only a small freezer compartment in the fridge
A couple of maintenance issues raised with the agency when we left, which I trust will be addressed, including the low-level Velux window in the upper bedroom, which wouldn't close/lock fully, and a very slow draining bath/shower, but these didn't spoil our stay.
Would definitely recommend.
Note the listing advice about the narrow staircase, and restricted access to the upper bedroom, meaning the cottage is not paricularly suited for those with limited mobility.

Tiny but lovely cottage
Nice cottage for a short stay. We needed a longer stay so stayed intermittently instead. No real problem with cottage. Stairs steep and low beam going into top bedroom. Bathroom small but Bolthole Retreats were unhelpful following our mistake as to the size of the property. Being new to rentals we relied on photos and not floor plan. Found a spacious and well appointed AirBNB instead. In retrospect cottage was overpriced.

Very confortable cottage at the heart of the Cotswolds!
Hi
We really enjoyed our stay in the Poppy cottage.
The house was very clean but I noticed all the garbages of previous rentals in the outdoor storage place. This necessitate to be cleaned.
Kind regards,
