The region
Dunster is a medieval village on the edge of Exmoor National Park in West Somerset, dominated by its magnificent castle perched on a wooded hilltop above the High Street.
Often described as one of the most intact medieval villages in England, Dunster has a rich history stretching back over a thousand years. The iconic octagonal Yarn Market, built in the early 1600s, sits at the heart of the village -- a reminder of its prosperous wool-trading past. The broad High Street is lined with independent shops, galleries, tea rooms, and characterful pubs, many housed in listed buildings dating from the 15th and 16th centuries.
The village has its own Post Office with a cash machine, a deli, and a good range of places to eat and drink. For larger supermarkets, banks, and petrol stations, the coastal town of Minehead is just 1.5 miles away -- Tesco and Morrisons are both on the outskirts with long opening hours. Most shops in Dunster keep traditional hours of 9am to 5pm, often extending in summer.
Dunster hosts a lively programme of events throughout the year, including the Dunster Show, Dunster Country Fair, and the much-loved Winter Festival in early December when the village is lit by candlelight with music, dancing, and medieval re-enactments in the streets.

Very good weekend away was somewhat spoiled by noisy neighbour above our bedroom banging around for an hour at midnight and again at 4.30am. Otherwise very good indeed.

Amazing place. Kids had such a great time feeding the ponies, playing on the trampoline and in the games room. The swimming pool was great especially having the whole pool to ourselves for an hour.

A beautiful location with great on site facilities and near to Dunster for morning coffee and Minehead for grocery shopping We stayed for a week but I would have preferred two. We have two small dogs and it was great for them With a paddock to run in.

We had an excellent family long weekend here. Everything was of a high standard, particularly the pool and jacuzzi.
The kitchen and living area is two flights of stairs up from the main door so Luccombe Cottage is not really suitable for anyone who finds stairs difficult.
One tip for others, on our first morning we walked along the busy road into Timberscombe but there is a path from the front of the pool for most of the way - much safer.

The location was excellent. The swimming pool was great and really well organised in the current situation and the grounds were great with plenty for the children to do. Unfortunately the cottage we stayed in was very damp, especially on the ground floor which meant nothing could be left on the floor as it got wet and the bedding felt damp. The cottage was not very clean either so we cleaned it ourselves on arrival.

The location and facilities make the property 4 star. We were very grateful for the lovely pool on not so nice days and the games room was good fun. Beautiful surroundings and a fabulous base to tour the area.
We would advise that you take plenty of towels if your cottage does not have a tumble dryer as we struggled to get ours dry when the weather was bad. Although the surroundings are lovely, due to the close proximity to a narrow and busy road, you cannot walk far from the cottages - you will need to drive first.
We would also advise all guests to check all the property details on the property’s own website - we just went off the details found on the broker site and missed some key information.

Set in a beautiful location approximately 3 miles outside Dunster in a valley. The cottage was an upside down property so anyone with mobility issues should have the downstairs bedroom that has an ensuite. On the second floor are two twin bedrooms and the main bathroom. Here there is a door to the outside to the recycling area and a walk around the grounds.
The top floor is the best part. We were here in the snow and the view from the Velux Windows was beautiful. You can open the window full to enjoy the superb views and take pictures.
This floors houses a well equipped kitchen and dining area and the leads to the lounge. This has two sofas and a comfortable arm chair.
You can not park at the cottage but you can take the car down and unload and then pop the car back at the car park near the entrance.
There are pretty grounds to walk around and include a tennis court, trampoline, indoor heated games room with pool table, table soccer. The best indoor activity is the heated pool with newly installed hot tub.
A great base to go and explore this area and very relaxing to come back to. We were here in sub zero temperatures and the cottage was lovely and warm.
