Midtown - Westport Hotels, Kansas City

"Our stay at Stoney Creek Hotel Kansas City - Independence was unfortunately the worst hotel experience we’ve had. There were extremely large groups of unattended children throughout the property. I’m not referring to a handful, there were easily two dozen pre-teen children running up and down the hallways late at night and occupying the pool area with little to no supervision. After 10 PM, the hallway running and yelling continued. When we politely asked them to stop, they became even louder. The suite above our room had children running, jumping, and moving furniture until nearly 2 AM, making it nearly impossible to sleep. We reported this to the front desk around midnight. The staff member who helped us was very polite and professional, and he did go upstairs to speak with them, but unfortunately the situation was never resolved and the noise continued. I understand hotels can’t make children behave, but there should be enforceable policies for the adults responsible for them. It isn’t fair for other guests — who paid the same rate, to dodge unsupervised children in hallways or feel like they need to watch children in the pool who clearly cannot swim. This is especially disappointing because my family has stayed here several times a year, but after this experience that will likely have to change."

"Under renovation (which we were informed about the day of our check in). Upon check in, we were told we were lucky because we would be in one of the newly renovated rooms. Unfortunately, they are poorly done in every way. Nothing was functional, everything is cheap and done halfway (missing outlet covers, power strips hanging at the back of the bed, visible caulking), entire hotel smelled bad. Additionally, the desk was unattended most evenings with easy access to the building, the food permit expired in December, the WiFi never worked. For the renovation part, the work started earlier and ended later than we were told. The only good thing is that it is right on the free streetcar, which we used constantly. The noise of the streetcar didn’t bother us, but it may bother others. "
