Riad Mazar Fes

10/10 Excellent

"Having travelled extensively it is a pleasure to arrive at a hotel and be welcomed, feel like you are part of a family and comfortable to ask about just anything.. the hotel is exceptional and with so much history it is like wandering through a different time.. loved every minute of it and will come back for sure."

Palais Fes Yahya

10/10 Excellent

"We enjoyed our stay! It was easy to locate Palais Fes Yahya as they have several flashes on the medina walls directing you once you are in the general area. All of the staff were super helpful with any questions we had - whether it was a helping us with laundry, how to book an early morning taxi to the bus station or recommendations for a restaurant or a Hammam. The air conditioning worked great and cooled the room down quickly upon return from a hot walk through the medina. Breakfast was delicious as was the restaurant upstairs! We would definitely recommend staying here!"

Riad Taryana

10/10 Excellent

"Well located near the Blue Gate on a quiet street. And, the very friendly and welcoming staff really made for the perfect stay. Pillows were comfortable with m clean white bed linens. Breakfast and coffee was plentiful with flexible timing. The hosts really went out of their way to be helpful with tour suggestions. And I so appreciated being walked to their arranged taxi to catch my early morning flight. A wonderful stay."

Vichy Thermalia Spa Hotel Moulay Yacoub

"Endroit de rêves. Architecture magnifique. Chambre magnifique et vue sur les montagnes extraordinaire ! Spa, Hamman traditionnel, bain et source naturelle et tous les soins bien organisés. Un endroit ou le temps s'arrête. Une expérience hors du commun et un grand merci pour ce moment de pur bonheur."

Riad Maison Bleue And Spa

10/10 Excellent

"A charming and well run Riad on the outskirts of the Medina. The room was comfortable with incredible views. The location was very convenient for exploring the Medina and the staff were lovely and welcoming. The food served in their restaurant was delicious and they have the best harira soup in town! I would definitely recommend this Riad and would stay here again."

Frequently asked questions

What other neighbourhoods are similar to Mellah?

While Mellah offers a great experience, other neighbourhoods in Fès provide distinct qualities that might appeal to different travellers.

For those who appreciate history and a bustling, traditional feel, the area around Bab Bou Jeloud in Fès el Bali (the Old City) is an excellent choice. This iconic blue gate is a major entry point into the medina, and the surrounding streets are full of artisan workshops, street food vendors, and traditional riads. It's an ideal base for exploring the labyrinthine alleys and experiencing the everyday life of Fès. Couples often enjoy the romanticism of staying within the ancient walls and the easy access to historical sites like the Bou Inania Madrasa.

Families looking for a more relaxed pace and slightly more modern conveniences might consider staying in Ville Nouvelle (the New City). This area offers wider streets, a more organised layout, and a range of contemporary hotels and restaurants. While it lacks the historical charm of the medina, it provides easier access for vehicles and a different perspective on Fès.

When is the best time to go to Mellah?

The best times to visit Mellah are typically during spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) when the weather is most agreeable.

During these seasons, Mellah experiences pleasant temperatures, usually ranging from 20°C to 28°C. This makes exploring the historic Jewish Quarter, with its bustling souks and narrow lanes, much more comfortable than in the hotter summer months. You'll find it easier to wander through the Fes Mellah, one of the oldest Jewish quarters in Morocco, and visit landmarks like the Aben Danan Synagogue.

Couples looking for a romantic getaway will appreciate the milder evenings, superb for enjoying a rooftop dinner with views over the city or a leisurely stroll through the illuminated streets. The comfortable climate also enhances excursions to nearby attractions, such as the Royal Palace or the Bab Bou Jeloud gate, without the intensity of summer heat.

Travellers seeking a relaxed and convenient experience will find these shoulder seasons ideal. The weather allows for comfortable sightseeing and easier navigation of the city's unique layout, making it a stress-free trip.
