10/10 Excellent
"One of the best hotels you could ever stay at. Fantastic environment and amenities. Any room you pick would be fantastic. Highly recommend the half board, great food options. It can come across as quite a pretentious place but it is absolutely stunning and a once in a lifetime stay"

Maitai Polynesia Bora Bora

8/10 Good
"Great location with beach and restaurants only steps away. The staff was very helpful and wonderful. The lobby is welcoming but the hotel rooms could use some updating. Be mindful that some of the rooms ( not bungalows) require uphill walking and steps. Little too pricey but that's Bora Bora."

10/10 Excellent
"This was the highlight of our bucket-list trip to French Polynesia: three nights in paradise; and it delivered. We aren't accustomed to such a high end experience, so this was an unforgettable and amazing time. The resort grounds and buildings are immaculate, beautifull, and very well-maintained; despite it being the high season, the large footprint of the resort makes for a very tranquil and private stay. The sunset bungalow was spacious and luxurious; and we saw a large variety of fish, including a lemon shark, right from the walkway to our room. There was easy access to kayaks and paddleboards, although they are located on a windy point that makes entry slightly challenging for older guests due to small waves in the lagoon. But the lagoon is clear, warm, and shallow; quite inviting even for a nonbouyant person like myself! We did the drift snorkelling through the coral garden three times and could have done it many more times if we had the time and energy! We also arranged a half day tour of Taha'a (Fenua Safari) thru the concierge; it was very interesting to catch a glimpse of everyday life in this amazing place, and quite interesting to learn about the production of pearls and vanilla. The breakfast buffet was quite generous, so we never needed to stop for lunch. Three days flew by, but it was just enough to have the time of our lives."

"This property was very special! Clean, private, amazing views and outdoor space. The hosts were so nice and responsive. It was fun to stay on the main island and be a part of the local culture vs the resorts on the outer strip. 10/10, don’t even think twice about booking this property, just book it and know you’re in for a treat. AMAZING!!"

Hotel Royal Bora Bora

Hotel Royal Bora Bora

10/10 Excellent
"We had a wonderful stay at Royal Bora Bora and would happily recommend it to anyone visiting the island. The location is excellent, making it easy to explore Bora Bora and enjoy everything the island has to offer. The room was spacious, clean, comfortable, and perfect for relaxing after a day of adventures. The staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always available to help with recommendations, transportation, and organizing tours. Their hospitality really made our stay even more enjoyable. One of the best parts of our stay was renting bicycles directly from the hotel. It was a fantastic way to discover the island at our own pace, stopping at beautiful beaches and viewpoints along the way. Royal Bora Bora offers excellent value for money, combining a great location, comfortable rooms, outstanding service, and a relaxed tropical atmosphere. We had an amazing time and would definitely choose this hotel again on our next visit to Bora Bora!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Mai Moana?
The best area to stay in Mai Moana is the Fakarava Atoll, particularly along the northern pass of Garuae for its exceptional natural beauty and access to marine life.Fakarava is a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, renowned for its crystal-clear lagoons and abundant coral reefs. The main village, Rotoava, is situated on the northern end of the atoll, near the Garuae Pass, which is one of the widest passes in French Polynesia. Here, you'll find a scattering of guesthouses and small hotels, a few local shops, and eateries. The pace of life here is very relaxed, with bicycles being the primary mode of transport along the flat, sandy tracks. For couples seeking a tranquil and intimate escape, Fakarava is an ideal choice. The overwater bungalows and beachfront villas often found here offer privacy and direct access to the lagoon. It's superb for enjoying quiet moments together, perhaps snorkelling directly from your accommodation or watching the sunset over the water.Diving and snorkelling enthusiasts will find Fakarava to be a paradise. When is the best time to go to Mai Moana?
The best time to go to Mai Moana is during the dry season, which runs from May to October.During these months, you'll experience consistently warm temperatures, typically around 27-29°C, with lower humidity and less rainfall. This makes it ideal for enjoying the island's outdoor activities, from relaxing on the beaches to exploring the coral reefs. The calmer waters during this period are also superb for water sports like snorkelling, diving, and paddleboarding.Travellers looking for a balance of excellent weather and good value might consider the shoulder months of May, June, September, and October. While still within the dry season, these months often see slightly fewer crowds than the peak months of July and August, and you might find more favourable rates on accommodation and flights. The wet season, from November to April, brings higher humidity, more frequent rainfall, and a greater chance of tropical storms.
