Downtown Luray is only 10 minutes away and has plenty of cute shops, restaurants and things to do. Stop by Hawksbill Brewing company for some beers to enjoy on our deck, or grab lunch at West Main Market. A rainy day calls for enjoying the local art gallery, checking out Hawksbill Trading Company, and getting a cozy cup of coffee at the Gathering Grounds or Broad Porch Coffee
Shenandoah National Park has plenty to do right near the Thornton Gap Entrance (20 minutes), we love hiking to Mary’s Rock and some of the best sunrises and sunsets are just within a few miles from this gate. Grab some coffee and head on up to watch the sunrise over the mountains to start your day.
The Luray Caverns are only 7 minutes from the house are a MUST see if you are in the area! They are the largest caverns on the east coast and a beautiful to walk through.
There are also lots of kayak rentals, walking trails, and state parks just a quick drive from the house as well.
After all of that activity, be sure to check out some of the local wineries in the area, like Wisteria Farms, Castle Vineyards, or Glen Manor Vineyards.
| The House |
Our home is a 2-story, 3 bedroom 1920's farmhouse with original hardwood floors, doors and trim that's been fully remodeled. It sits on just over 2 acres with views of Shenandoah behind the house and George Washington & Jefferson National Forest in front. Newly added fire pit is perfect for roasting s'mores and watching the sunset over the mountains.
The large peak you can see from the porch is Kennedy Peak, which you can hike to! The house is easily accessible off of 340 and requires no mountain roads to get to the property.
The front porch is our favorite feature of this home, with views of Kennedy Peak, sunset hour is the best hour! Enjoy a nice glass of wine on the conversation set in the front or grab a cup of coffee and enjoy the rockers as you listen to the roosters in the morning. The field in front of us has a dis-used chicken coop (it’s just for storage now!) that adds to the country setting.
Kitchen
The Kitchen is fully stocked with everything to make a frozen pizza or a four course meal. Plenty of counter space to spread out while cooking or to spread out all the snacks.
We also have a K-Cafe Keurig that can brew cappuccinos and lattes with it’s built in milk frother.
The kitchen does have a washer and dryer you are welcome to use during your stay.
Living Room
The living room features hand built board & batten, the vintage hardwood floors and stunning trim.
You're welcome to use the Roku TV to binge watch a new show on a rainy day, and we have 100’s of DVD’s for movie night. There’s plenty of games and books as well!
Our cozy leather couch is perfect for snuggling up with a new read or for relaxing after a long day of hiking!
Bedrooms
All 3 bedrooms have queen beds and feature mountain views. Mattresses are extra cozy memory foam and black out curtains let you sleep in if you need some extra rest after hiking!
One bedroom has a built in desk that’s perfect for working from - the house does get surprisingly good internet for being in the middle of the country!
Bathrooms
The house has a full bathroom downstairs and a half bath upstairs attached to the main bedroom of the house.
We have plenty of towels & linens, along with a hairdryer and lots of other bathroom essentials you may need during your stay.
Pets welcome with fee, please contact us prior to booking!

This is an excellent get away in Shenandoah valley. What was advertised was exactly what you get. I really appreciated being in genuine peace and quiet for the whole family and our dog.
We had a great time at the home. The location was great as it was relatively close to attractions but still secluded enough to get some of those Virginia vibes. The owners were so nice and quick with communication. They pay attention to the details. Loved that we were able to travel with our dogs as well. Would highly recommend!
We had a nice long weekend staying at the hillside house. Everything was very clean and as described in the online listing. Our kids enjoyed the games and we really enjoyed the front porch! The location is great to go to Luray Caverns and explore Shenandoah National Park. The kitchen is equipped with everything you’d need to cook a meal. We would consider coming back!
We stayed here and went to Luray Caverns and the Shenandoah mountains for hiking. It was relaxing to be out of town and off by ourselves. The stars at night were beautiful. The house was clean and well taken care of. It reminded me of the farmhouse I lived in as a child. The house was surprisingly clean, and the air was clean, not a musty smell in the whole house which is important to me because of my allergies. Enjoyed the charm of this restored farmhouse.
We stayed here Thursday - Sunday to explore the Luray Caverns, Shenandoah National Forest and some of the breweries/ restaurants along the way. The house is perfect for a couple or a small family. The main living space downstairs wasn’t too cramped. Note: The full bathroom is on the first floor while the bedrooms are on the 2nd floor. The bedrooms are cozy and well furnished. Our puppy had a great time exploring the property and staring at the farm animals across the street. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars for cleanliness was the bathroom fans were dusty. Not a deal breaker.
A friend and I were passing thru the area on a business trip and decided to take a couple days to unwind in the area as we wanted to see Luray Caverns and Shenandoah National Park.
This property lived up to the hype! It was wonderful accommodations, clean, and well-equipped. I'm the first person to complain if a bed is uncomfortable but I slept soundly. The beds were great! If I truly have to search for a negative, I'd suggest maybe changing the shower head.... But honestly, it was spectacular. Close to major roads. I enjoyed sitting out to see the stars. The rolling thunder on the mountains added to the mysteriousness at night. Loved it!
The house was super cute! The host made sure we had all the necessary information prior to arrival and made it very easy for us to check in, despite arriving after dark. The beds were comfortable. We enjoyed the fire pit!
Fantastic stay and the stars capped off the weekend
We had a wonderful time at the farmhouse. The house is a great blend of historic farmhouse with modern amenities. Soooo quiet - the occasional cow and rooster from a distance is all we heard at night. The stars were breathtaking.Very easy access to Shenandoah River state park, downtown Luray, and Skyline Drive. Had a great time!
Our family really enjoyed our time at the Hillside House. It’s location was within 10 minutes of Luray Caverns. The owners thought of many details that made our stay stress free: lots of coffee k cups, ample dishes, kitchen accessories for cooking, tons of towels in the bathrooms, extra toiletries etc. The beds were comfortable and the house decor really added to the country ambience. As a family of four, we loved the large dining table to sit at. The front porch is amazing, and we enjoyed sitting out on the rocking chairs and patio furniture. Our kids and puppy loved running in the spacious yard. This is truly a wonderful home for anyone, and it worked extremely well for us with young kids and a dog! The owners truly thought of everything in order to make this a wonderful home to stay in!
The property was very quiet and we loved sitting on the porch on the rocking chairs with a glass of wine watching a deer family in the field below.
The property was very well stocked with herbs spices, cooking oils, tea, coffee sugar and plenty of cooking equipment.
The beds were super comfy and the linens so soft..
We really enjoyed our stay
The cozy hillside house is exactly as advertised! Can’t imagine needing anything else for our stay. It was a perfect location for our family and dog! Close enough to town and the entrance to Shenandoah National Park. Amelia was a very responsive and helpful host. Top choice for the area.
