torn mattress in the backyard, the whole lawn is full of mole holes, the trees are dry and there are many large dry sticks that have fallen and no one has cleaned them up, beer bottles and garbage. It's just an abandoned house. The broom that is buried under the leaves has been lying there for about half a year, I think. Trees looks like after fires and you don’t know when fall at your had !

The property is not as advertised. Tired, unclean, and their pictures do not represent the actual condition. We tried to work with the owner and they were bot willing in any way to help. We did not spend a single night there. Complete waste and disappointment. Makes platforms like VRBO vulnerable to losing credibility. I highly recommend you do not rent this property.

Pictures not accurate of proprty

Yi was responsive and communicated well during our stay. The beds were comfortable, but the state of the property was not ask shown in the listing pictures. Too much excess furniture, a lot of stuff in the kitchen (inc food), minimum basics of a studio kitchen not included, random stuff packed in the drawers/cubbards/counters and the yard was not maintained (weeds vs lawn, 3 BBQs in various stages of decay and a collection of patio tables). For charging a cleaning fee the kitchen floor on arrival was dirty (kept my shoes on the whole time) and overall the house was in need of R&M (tiles missing on the kitchen countertop) and a deep clean. The location was great for our family but disappointed in the reality vs photos in the listing for the price.

Stayed for one night, no propane grill was dirty. Inhad to buy a new propane bottle. Which i left at the property. The property is old but it does the job, decent sized back yard with pleanty of space. The price is a huge rip off tho.

Clean, Spacious and Comfortable home with a Communicative host

I stayed at this property with some friends last weekend. In the days leading up to our stay, Yi was very responsive, and more than happy to answer any questions I had. Our check in process could not have been easier, and upon arrival the home was just as clean and spacious as it looks in the photos. We greatly appreciated the small touches such as coffee and a snack bowl. The backyard is huge and the perfect place to share a meal or just relax. I would stay here again anytime I am in the area!

Communication already wasn't good with this owner.I had a gathering for my birthday and she showed up to the house without asking, threatening to come in the house, so we had no privacy.Wasn’t nice or respectful at all and I feel like prices were being made up along the way.The house and backyard are WAY smaller then pictures with brown dead grass in the back.

Problems from the get go

I came down to this area to celebrate and graduate from school. Unfortunately, this property did not meet the expectations that we had. To start with the property owner got the check in date incorrect, and had to push back my check in time until later than it was on the agreement. As we were there on time, this did create some problems, especially since the temperature is a lot higher than normal and we had no place to use the facilities. Secondly, the property did not meet expectations. The photo showed one thing but when you get there, you realize how camera angles can dictate one view but when you get there, you see another. The place was not clean. All the TVs in every room did not work the way they were supposed to. Eric, we could not get any television stations. It used Roku and Samsung of which I had to download a subscription to try and pay to watch TV. We ended up watching TV on the iPad. None of the TVs were a proper size for the room either which made it extremely difficult to view if you were trying to view anyway anyways. The thermostat also was extremely temperamental. It was either freezing cold in the room were extremely hot. There was no in between.Another problem that we had was with the shower valves. They did not stay consistent and would not hold the temperature from day-to-day.The plus sides to the place were that the beds were comfortable. And the backyard was extremely peaceful.

Not that clean

Our stay at the Topanga Retreat was enjoyable enough. However, we were surprised at the clutter in the house - especially in the garage. Looked like a hoarder's house as you couldn't even get into the garage for the "stuff" that was in it. The washer wasn't working and the owner did not notify us of this issue before we arrived. The kitchen was dirty and we had to run utensils, dinnerware, cookware, etc., through the dishwasher before we could use them. Needless to say, the kitchen was cleaner when we left than it was when we arrived. Also, there is no cable or satellite television. A cheap digital antenna was in the main living room, but the TVs in the bedrooms had no reception. Fortunately, I had a Fire Stick that allowed my family to watch television. This could be a very enjoyable place to stay if the owner will invest a little time and money into cleaning and updating it.

Disappointed

I hate to give a less than stellar review, but I believe future guest should be warned of anything less than an excellent stay. To begin, check in time was supposed to be at 4:00pm. We asked but weren’t granted early check in, which is fine since that was never guaranteed. However we didn’t even receive a response with check in instructions until we arrived at 4:00pm from host in person, who was still there cleaning until about 4:30pm. Upon arrival we discovered a shattered sliding glass door, that went to the backyard, that had been boarded up with plywood on one side and had some sort of sheet attempting to hide it on the other. There was absolutely no prior indication that the property was damaged before discovering it ourselves. When questioned, host claimed someone bumped it and brushed it off as if it was insignificant. We hosted a small dinner reception, that we got approved by host, and this was quite embarrassing to say the least. Also the master bedroom balcony is unsafe and a hazard to put it lightly. Three women stepped out on the balcony and it sounded like it was about to come down. When inspected, its support beam underneath is clearly cracked all the way through, and it’s only a matter of time until a guest takes a two story fall. Making a major selling point off limits the whole trip. The final complaint is that the two garbage bins were completely packed and in the street when we arrived, so we had absolutely nowhere to put trash for our 3 day stay. There wasn’t even extra kitchen trash bags to fill up. These are things you wouldn’t think you’d be dealing with when renting, or at least given fair warning prior. Despite all this we still had the decency to clean and leave the house as we came, if not a little better(besides said trash bags that we had nowhere to put). Other than that the stay was fine as we made the best of the situation, it was just extremely hard to look past all of the faults we encountered. Again, I hate to leave a bad review, house could be great with everything fixed and useable.

Photos of listing are not accurate. Photos show a much nicer cleaner house and yard. House and yard are cluttered with excessive furniture. House grounds are not kept up. Counted 6 grilled in and around the yard with only one being functional. Carpets, drapes, walls, furniture are stained. Closets are cluttered with sheets and blankets and just random “stuff” all around the house. Open boxes and containers of food in kitchen and fridge. House could use some TLC for the price. House is about 30-40 minute drive to Hollywood and LA. Neighborhood was quite but road the house is on does get busy in morning and afternoon. Plenty of parking. Bedrooms were adequate.House served its purpose, but would look for a different place closer to the city next time even if it cost a few hundred more.

Great spot - awesome amenities, perfect for hosting a group of friends. Host very responsive and helpful. Would highly recommend for anyone hosting a group of people. I liked the shakers, bottle openers, the games, and the folding tables. All were great!

Woodland Hills Get A Way

Woodland Hills is a beautiful location. This house is suitable for large groups with children and pets. The back yard is huge and house is roomy. We only had 5 adults so lots of room for us. Great kitchen.

Great place for a small gathering

Great place for a small gathering. Plenty of beds and nice living room spaces for chatting and talking. The interior of the house was older and perhaps in need of some upkeep and not as pictured. It was a little hard to get in touch with the host before the stay, but Yi was very responsive during the stay. The backyard could use some upkeep and is not as pictured in the listing. The organization of the furniture is also not as pictured. For the price point, I wish the house looked more like what was pictured on the Vrbo website. But it served its purpose.

Slow, poor communication almost lead to a disaster.

The property itself was as described, but pretty messy with stuff all around. We mainly cared about using the backyard for a short after wedding sendoff. We described how we wanted to use the property, but the Host seemed confused and tried to add big fees, imply we could not have a small fire, etc. Working with the hose was very stressful.

Front and backyard could had some landscaping done and bbq grills could of been cleaned ..inside of the house was a little dusty but other than that it was a nice stay

The home has plenty of space and a beautiful backyard, which is what I was looking for. I had everything I needed. Also, I accidentally left some valuables at the property, and the owner was kind enough to find them and mail them back to me. I very much appreciate it! Would stay again for sure.

Beware - Not As Advertised

I have so many details I want to share, but can’t due to the character limit. It is not well cleaned, there is SO much stuff (chairs, beds, mattresses, tables, etc.) everywhere inside and outside. All of it is dirty and very used. The AC runs but you will get very little cool air. The TV’s barely work and cannot be updated to use apps like Netflix or Hulu. There is so much random junk in all the drawers, cabinets and closets. There was mold on some of the furniture. Most of the furniture and “art work” is clearly from hotels after it had been used for a long time. There are fans and lamps all over but less than half of them actually work. The electrical fixtures are old and plugs fall halfway out on you. One outlet behind a couch sparked at us when trying to plug in a fan. There’s a bunch of random chairs on the back deck, lounge chairs in the back yard are covered in dirt and debris. There were four or five grills in various states of decay. Overall, this place is gross. DO NOT TAKE YOUR KIDS HERE! This place is probably only good if you want to party hard with a bunch of people and are up to the risk of it catching fire on you. The host was somewhat responsive, but unhelpful with even the small issues we found at first. As the two days went on, I saw no point in communicating with her further. We couldn’t find another place, so we toughed it out. It made our skin crawl.
