About this property
Private Historic Townhouse. Incredible Central Location by Covent Garden
OVERVIEW The incredible, recently renovated 350 year private townhouse combines an amazing central location, with rare historic architecture and modern comfort. Lovingly and sympathetically restored it combines the best of the old with super fast Wifi, comfy beds and period elegance. No ordinary rental!
THE LOCATION Once the garden of the Duke of Buckingham's York House on the River Thames, this small secret area of London became known London's Adelphi Area. A very special conservation area sandwiched just 3 mins walk in each direction between: Covent Garden to the North, Trafalgar Square & The National Gallery to the West, The Savoy Hotel to the East and Embankment Gardens and the River Thames to the South. The area was orginaly developed in the 17th century with townhouses, further developed in the 18th Century with stately regency & Georgian properties and the Art Deco Adelphi building added in the 20th Century. Today it is hidden residential enclave which is what London is all about - where Samuel Pepys lived in 17th century, and Charles Dickens set one of his novels in 19th century and where today many movies & TV series have been been filmed (the Crown, Fleabag, Cruella, Poirot, to name but a few).
TRANSPORT / CONNECTIONS Within 1 minute walk: You are just 1 minute away from both tube stations (Charring Cross & Embankment), bus routes across all of London and taxis ranks.
Within 3 minute walk: Covent Garden, The Savoy, Raffles and Corinthia Hotels, Trafalgar Square, National Gallery, Thames River.
Within 12 minute walk South Bank, Parliament & Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Saint James' Park, Theatre Land, Soho, Leicester Sqaure,
THE ARCHTECTURE / PROPERTY The property is a 350yr old townhouse, lovingly renovated for modern comfort and to celebrate its historic character. It is one of the 10 oldest surviving townhouses in London, built in 1673 (just 6 years after the great fire of London in 1666). In around 1820 the front facade of the building was made regency in appearance and rendered, whilst the interior kept its original paneled rooms and very rare paneled stairwell. Having been lovingly restored the 5 floor townhouse has an stunning original 17th century stairwell with rooms either side. With two large windows in almost every room, lovely period furnishings and ever-so comfy quality mattresses and bedding, great fluffy towels, power showers, integrated sonos music system, 65inch TV, and super-fast networked wifi throughout the building, this property epitomises taste, history and modern luxury.
Lower Ground floor: Well equipped newly fitted kitchen with quartz granite counters, all mod-cons, casual dining centre table, nespresso machines. Ground floor : Paneled entrance hall & Fabulous Paneled Dining Room with round table to seat 8. First Floor: Drawing room / lounge and separate TV Family room lounge with 65inch smart TV Second Floor: Bedrooms 1 (6ft super king bed) , Bedroom 2 (standard double) & power-shower room Third Floor: Bedrooms 3 (standard double) , Bedroom 4 (standard double) & power-shower room (extra single air mattress or UK baby cot available for bedroom 4 if required)
NEARBY You are in the beating heart of London, where so so much is moments away: reputed restaurant of almost all nationailities form amazing take aways, street food or michelin star awarded fine dining. For culture, The National Theatre, South Bajk Centre Theatre Land, Shaftsbury Avenue Theatres, Kimgs Gallery, NPG, Somerset House, Courtauld Gallery, National Gallery are a very short walk, not to mention high teas at the great iconic hotels, riverside walks, shopping at bustling markets and Oxford Street, evening cocktail bars & clubs. It's all so close and a walk away, you only really need to go on the tube, underground or a bus if you want to!!
PLEASE NOTE: The property was built in 1673. It was built long before the London underground, the modern roads, and more than 250 years before the second world war which obliterated much of the area as we are so close to parliament. As such it’s a protected heritage building, old and over time has settled and developed its charming character. Please be aware of, and take caution, especially on stairs and wooden floors, as it has some uneven and sloping floors and stairs. exposed floor boards with some gaps. Bowman House was built 1673. It is over 5 floors with lots of stairs and space.
