I am very sorry to read your review and that your stay was not as comfortable as it could have been. And as you have submitted it anonymously, I do not know what room you were in. We have good reviews for a reason. We are very upfront about what we are and what we offer. You would have received two emails from us before your arrival, explaining that we are old buildings from the 1850s and all rooms are quite simple and compact. We understand what we offer is not for everyone and we will always try our best to help with any issues.... As long as we are made aware. The vast majority of our guests love what we do and return again and again. I am sorry we were not for you.

Thank you for your comments. All our rooms are small, and we do send out an email before arrival to explain that we are comprised of old buildings from the 1850s and that all rooms are compact. I understand that this is not for everyone and our singles are very small rooms. If you liked what we offer but prefer a bit more space, a standard double or twin might be more suitable.

We have good reviews for a reason. And they are written by guests who actually stayed here and did their research properly before booking. We fully understand that what we offer is not for everyone. Simple rooms in old buildings from the 1850s can be a challenge for some. This is why we send out an email as soon as you have booked to give a bit more detail. If it is not for you, fair enough. But it is more than good enough for the vast majority of guests that do stay here.

Very sorry for the inconvenience to you and to all our guests with the fire alarm going off in the night. We have been here 61 years and I can count on the fingers of one hand the amount of times this has happened. I apologise for that. Regarding your criticisms, I am a little disappointed. Firstly, we are not a hotel. We make this very clear and your receive two notifications before you even get here explaining that we are a bed and breakfast in old buildings from the 1850s. I appreciate what we offer is not for everyone, but we have plenty of guests that really like what we do. Our rooms are simple, comfortable and clean. And this feedback we receive from the vast majority of our guests. We try our best to help potential guests make an informed decision when considering their booking options. I am sorry we didn't help you. However, I am most disappointed in your comments regarding our member of staff. He did a great job under stressful circumstances. He had to assess if there was any danger following the alarm going off. And once it was clear that there was no fire or chance of a fire, and that all or guests could return safely to their rooms, he tried to reset the fire alarm. The panel would not reset, and he had to call an emergency engineer for assistance. They did not answer, so he was calling all our emergency contact numbers for help. Finally he was able to get through and resolve the issue. Please excuse him for being distracted while he tried his best to sort out the problem as quickly as he could, therefore ensuring the safe return to the buildings of all our guests.

Thank you for your detailed comments. Sorry that the restaurant is temporarily closed. Like many other establishments all over the world, we are experiencing staff issues. Once we can find the right staff to help us move forward again, we will be serving as before. As for the rooms, we are unashamedly old fashioned, and we try our best to get across to all our guests what we offer and what to expect from a humble family business in buildings dating back to the 1850s. We are by no means modern, but we are clean and comfortable. A lot of what you have mentioned is down to your personal taste, which is perfectly fine, and you do point this out. My main concern is your experience with the shower as this has not been an issue mentioned previously. I have checked it myself today and it seemed to work fine. We will be monitoring how it functions daily to see if there is something we may have missed. If there is steady water temperature in the sink and the bath, it should be the same in the shower. I appreciate your comments and thank you for staying with us.

Thank you very much for your review. We are in buildings from the 1850s, so you are correct, stairs are quite narrow and would be an issue for guests with real mobility issues. We are upfront about this potential problem and it is mentioned in the confirmation that everyone would receive. Sorry about the bed, it is not that old and the majority of our guests have been very comfortable in that room. However, duly noted and we do have a schedule for replacing all the beds.
