The best area to stay in Košice is the Old Town (Staré Mesto), particularly along Hlavná Street and its immediate surroundings.

Hlavná Street forms the heart of Košice's Old Town, functioning as a long, pedestrianised boulevard. It's home to most of the city's significant landmarks, including the stunning St. Elisabeth Cathedral, the State Theatre, and the Singing Fountain. The street is lined with historic buildings, many housing cafes, restaurants, and shops, creating a pleasant and accessible environment.

Couples often find the Old Town ideal for a romantic getaway. The ability to stroll hand-in-hand between historic sites, enjoy fine dining, and experience the evening lights of the city centre without needing transport is a significant draw. Many hotels in this area offer beautiful views and a refined experience.

Solo travellers will also appreciate the convenience and central location of the Old Town. Everything is within walking distance, from museums and galleries to eateries and evening entertainment.

The best time to go to Košice is typically from late spring to early autumn, specifically from May to September, when the weather is most pleasant for sightseeing.

May and June offer mild temperatures and fewer crowds, making it ideal for exploring the city's historical sites and enjoying outdoor cafes without the peak summer rush. The city's parks and gardens are in full bloom during this period, adding to the beauty of your visit.

July and August are the warmest months, superb for those who enjoy long days and a lively option. You'll find many outdoor events and festivals taking place, particularly around Hlavná Street and the Old Town. This is a great time for couples who want to experience the city's buzzing summer energy and spend evenings dining al fresco.

September brings slightly cooler temperatures and the beautiful colours of autumn foliage, offering a comfortable and picturesque experience. The crowds begin to thin out, providing a more relaxed visit while still enjoying good weather for walking around and visiting attractions like St. Elisabeth Cathedral.

Košice offers a few distinct areas for evening entertainment. You'll find most of the activity concentrated around the Old Town.

The main street, Hlavná ulica, is the heart of Košice's nightlife. It's lined with bars, pubs, and restaurants that stay open late. You'll find a mix of places offering cocktails, local beers, and some with live music. It's a good place for a stroll and to pop into different establishments as you go.

As another option, look to the side streets branching off Hlavná ulica, particularly those around Dominikánske námestie. Here, you'll discover smaller, more intimate bars and some clubs that typically open later in the evening.
