"The young owners of this property are very sweet, kind and really try to be helpful. They seemed that had not quite got the hang of being proprietors, but they are very likable. Compared to other places we stayed cluttered with not quite the same and amenities. The owner was very helpful when we got stuck in snow bank during a snowstorm via messages. "A beautiful little inn that has two private Sento (baths) and jazz music playing throughout the day. The rooms were clean and quiet. I had a Japanese style room with a futon but Western rooms with beds are also available. Breakfast changed from Western style to Japanese each day; maybe you can request a specific meal type. The Keith Haring museum is just across the street and there were a few onsen and restaurants a short drive away."

"I truly enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable and authentic experience. What impressed me most was the incredibly welcoming staff, who made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. Their genuine hospitality added a personal touch that made all the difference.The experience felt authentic and thoughtfully curated, with so many small details carefully considered to make guests feel special. From the atmosphere to the little touches throughout my stay, everything contributed to a unique and memorable experience. It was clear that a lot of care and attention went into creating such a wonderful environment. I left with great memories and would happily return in the future."

"The Celecton is a nice, standard Japanese hotel. The rooms are small, but they are practical, very clean and amenities are good. If you want a hotel that is close to the Castle then this is a good one, but it is 10-15 minutes walk to the train station, restaurants, and the other attractions in Matsumoto. My room was facing the Castle but directly above a busy road, so it was quite noisy."

"I stayed at the JAL for 8 nights and was happy with the service. The location is great as it is a short walk to Zenkoji Temple, the Prefectural Museum and also to Nagano JR Station. Nagano was a fascinating city to visit and the JAL was situated in a good location for finding amenities such as shopping and food. I love to walk and I really enjoyed exploring the area around the hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Although my room was rather crowded with 3 beds, it was kept clean and well stocked. My only complaint was that the breakfast for a Westerner was very limited and got predictable very quickly. The food was very good, presented well and tasted fine but after 8 breakfasts eating the same things I was ready for a change."

APA Hotel & Resort Niigata Ekimae Odori

"APA is still a business hotel so the room size is going to be small. Good thing is that it is luxurious in terms of presentation so in a way you will feel the money is well spent. As per APA standard, all the amenities, switches and luggage space (under the bed) is all well planned. Just having the room to sleep this is more than enough. Key thing to note is that the lift will be full of people from 15 minutes before and after the check out time at 10am so don't leave it too late to check out. The other nice amenity is the public baths. Enjoy the warm 40 degree C water to ease your tired muscles after a day of walking and exploring. I don't know I miss it until I got to APA Ueno where it does not have a public bath so enjoy it while you can. Personally I have skipped the breakfast at APA. It is not expensive but after experiencing the other APA's breakfast, I think I can do better at the nearby Cafe."
