We are excited to share our band new kitchen. It was completed March 2025!

The Sandy Duck is a charming colorful cottage that sits in a perfect location - exactly between the ocean and the sound in Duck, NC. A ten-minute walk can take you to the ocean, and easy boardwalk access to the beach, or to the sound and the quaint village of Duck, which offers unique shops and restaurants.

The Sandy Duck features four bedrooms and three full bathrooms, a well stocked , open kitchen perfect for creating family meals, and lots of deck space to enjoy your morning coffee, sun bathe, or take an afternoon break from the beach.

When it's beach time, there's a large wheeled carrier to transport the beach chairs, umbrellas, boogie boards and toys which are provided, or you can pack up your car and drive 300 yards to the beach access where guests have free parking. After the beach, rinse off in the large outdoor shower, complete with a seated changing area.

When it's time for a break from the beach, relax in the large rope hammock, play a game of horseshoes, or bring (or rent) bikes to experience Duck's multi-use paths and trails.

In the evening, stroll down to Duck's unique sound side boardwalk where you can shop, drink, and dine while taking in the spectacular sunsets. The boardwalk, which has been featured in numerous travel periodicals, runs the entire length of the town and offers places for fishing, crabbing, or just setting off on your paddle-board or kayak. It also connects to the Duck Town Park, with over 11 acres of natural beauty including trails through the maritime forest and willow swamp, open green space, and amphitheater, picnic areas, and playground.

  • One of the northernmost towns along the coast in North Carolina, Duck is an idyllic town on the shores of the Currituck Sound. This shot was taken from the town's boardwalk while looking West over the sounds. It is advisable to visit the location in Winter as that is off season - so you can spend more time taking in the beauty of the North Carolina coastline and also sunsets are usually much more picturesque around the time owing to the cooler temperatures and lower amount of atmospheric haze. Plenty of things around Duck to see. Further north, there is the Currituck Lighthouse where you can climb the steps to the top of the lighthouse. North of Corolla, there is an area where you can drive along the coast on the sand - 4X4s a must. Here you can spot some Spanish Mustangs, horses out in the wild. If you're lucky, you can spot them running along the beach in the surf. I'd recommend taking a tour through the Corolla Wild Horse Fund - the money from the tours is used to help the wild horses in every which way possible and the staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Loved it!

This cottage had everything we could have possibly needed and everything was in great condition. The screened porch is very large and comfy, perfect for morning coffee and evening relaxing. Both the beach and the village are easy walk and the cart made carrying cooler and chairs easy. Loved our stay.

This was a family vacation and even with a tropical storm, we had a blast! The house was comfy and was what we read in the description. We were close to the beach, loved the atmosphere of the neighborhood.

Sunrise Sunset

From sunrise walks on the Atlantic each morning to sunset walks each evening on Currituck Sound we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The new kitchen is lovely with everything we needed and we spent lots of time chatting and reading on the delightful screened in porch. Delightful home and location - we will definitely be back!

Duck beach house

Our second time here, and enjoyed every minute, again. Great location, plenty of room for our 5 adults, really enjoyed the enclosed porch. Excellent communication with owner. Everyone in our party looking forward to coming back!

Lovely Place

We stayed here with our young adult sons during March for a few days. The house was lovely and clean. The screened off porch is fantastic for warm days. Easy walk to the beach or Duck boardwalk.

OBX perfection

This was our first time bringing our kids out to the OBX. The house was perfect for us! Just the right size, close to the beach, the outdoor shower was so useful and we couldn’t get enough of the beautiful screened in porch! Thanks for helping make our vacation one of the best.

Really a fantastic spot.

We loved the house and the location was amazing. We walked to everything we needed and the beach. We did a few short drives to museums and sightseeing activities. Loved the house. It was clean and cozy and had everything we needed.

Cozy family duck home

We loved this house!. Met all our family needs. Excellent waking location to beach and to town. Fully equipped kitchen, except would have loved a pancake griddle. Enjoyed the game and puzzle closet and disney plus!

Comfortable and convenient

We were very happy with our 6 night stay in April. The house was comfortable for 4 adults and we really liked hanging out on the screen porch. The location was great with a 5 minute walk to the beach and about 15 minute walk to downtown Duck. We drove up to Corolla and down to Nags Head to explore other areas and enjoy activities like the Wright Bothers Memorial, Elizabethan Gardens, Lost Colony National Park and the Wild Horse Adventure tour. We were very happy we chose Duck for our base. The downtown is very appealing with a great boardwalk, nice shops and good restaurants.

Great house

We had the best stay in this wonderfully located beach house. It’s perfectly situated to see both glimpses of the ocean and the sound from the house. We LOVED the screened in porch so much! It was a lovely October trip for us and we had a good mixture of time in town, at the beach, and relaxing at the home. My kids especially enjoyed the swings and the hammock beneath the porch. We hope to stay here again in the not too distant future. :)

Family friendly get away

This was our second time staying at this house and we love it! We travel with another family (each family having 2 parents and 2 young kids). The house is perfect for having one family sleep upstairs and one downstairs. Plenty of space for everyone to play inside and out and an easy walk or bike ride to the beach. The new screened in porch was aaaaamazing! We can’t want to go back!

Ideal location for our visit

Love the location - easy to walk to the beach, sound, Duck shops and restaurants! Also, easy to drive to Corolla and to Mateo for sightseeing and dinner. The property is just as shown and described once we got the right house number (not 126)! We appreciate the dining recommendations of the hosts and learning of the property and Duck history. Great Location, Screened in Porch a favorite

This is within walking distance to the beach and the area of duck with the boardwalk, shops etc. A favorite was the screened in porch, large and has couches and chairs that are comfortable and a big table for eating outside. Adds a whole new room to your stay. Also the kitchen was well stocked and there were chairs and beach items in the garage. Just bring your Beach Towel.

Step back in time

We thoroughly enjoyed our vacation here. It was a bit like staying at Grandma and Grandpa's house as there are some updates but other parts of the house are showing their age. It was one of the first houses built in Duck. We were disappointed to find that there was no hot tub as the VRBO description says there is one. We would definitely stay here again as the place was clean, the screened porch was AMAZING, the location to the beach and town were both a very easy walk, and though dated it was clean and comfortable.

Duck Vacation 2023

This was our second stay at this property. We booked it this year because we really enjoyed our first stay. Since last year's stay, they did some major renovations which made it even better!! The added bathroom in the master bedroom is nice but the best upgrade is the large screened-in porch. There is an area for dining and an area for just hanging out. We spent a great deal of time on the porch. The location is convenient to everything - beach, sound, and the town of Duck. The house is clean and well cared for. The kitchen is well stocked. Already planning our third visit next year!
