About this property
17th Century Cottage | Suffolk Market Town
Step inside Century Cottage and the 17th century announces itself immediately - original beams, a huge inglenook fireplace with log burner, and the kind of character that takes centuries to accumulate. Bright, contemporary interiors sit comfortably alongside the period charm. A quiet enclosed garden, pet-friendly, and a short walk from Hadleigh's historic high street - perfect for exploring Constable Country and the Suffolk countryside. Managed by SIB Properties.
We are available via Airbnb for any questions and are happy to recommend places to visit!
Hadleigh is one of Suffolk's most underrated market towns - a place that rewards a proper wander. The High Street is lined with independent shops, timber-framed buildings and decorative pargetting that dates back centuries, with the impressive Guildhall and Deanery Tower tucked just off the main street near the church. For coffee and people-watching, Paddy & Scott's is a local favourite. Fork Kitchen & Deli is the place for Suffolk produce, and evenings bring a choice of pubs including the Kings Head and Eight Bells, plus Cobbler's Café & Wine Bar for something a little different.
Wolves Wood RSPB Reserve - one of East Anglia's finest ancient woodlands - is a short drive away, along with the River Brett riverside walk and the Hadleigh Railway Walk for cycling and dog walks. Constable Country, Dedham Vale and the medieval village of Lavenham are all within 20-30 minutes.
- The whole house will be yours to enjoy. There is also a side entrance plus undercover shelter in the back garden if you want to bring bikes. - The kitchen is fully equipped, with additional freezer storage available in the garden shed.
Century Cottage has been standing in Hadleigh since the 17th century, and it shows - in the best possible way. Original beams, a huge inglenook fireplace with log burner, and proportions that remind you this building has sheltered generations before you. The kind of character that simply can't be replicated in a new build.
Inside, the renovation has been done with a light touch - bright, contemporary interiors that sit comfortably alongside the period features rather than fighting them. It's a cottage that manages to feel genuinely modern and genuinely old at the same time, which is rarer than it sounds.
Three bedrooms sleep up to 6 across two doubles and a twin room, with two bathrooms serving the house. The fully equipped kitchen and comfortable living space make it well suited to families and groups who want to actually use the house rather than just sleep in it. A dedicated workspace and fast WiFi mean it works equally well for those combining a stay with remote working.
Outside, an enclosed garden with seating gives you a private outdoor space that's well suited to dogs - and a side entrance with undercover shelter makes it practical for bikes too. The garden is quiet despite the central location, which is one of the cottage's better kept secrets.
Hadleigh itself deserves more attention than it gets. One of Suffolk's finest medieval market towns, with a guildhall, a handsome high street of independent shops, cafés and pubs, and a pace of life that feels genuinely unhurried. The cottage sits a short, quiet walk from all of it - close enough to walk to dinner, far enough to sleep undisturbed.
Constable Country and Dedham Vale are on your doorstep. Lavenham - arguably England's best preserved medieval village - is under 20 minutes. Ipswich, Colchester and the Suffolk coast are all within easy reach for day trips.
Managed by SIB Properties, a specialist short-let management company covering Essex and Suffolk.
