The Alice Cabin in Winterland!
So...you're after an adventure. Or maybe it's a cozy escape into the mountains...a getaway from the stresses and routine of daily life. Come escape from it all when you visit the Alice in Winterland Cabin! This mountain community feels magical, and what better way to reconnect, enjoy family time, and simply 'just get away.'
My husband and I love the community of St. Mary's - the history, the land, the neighbors, the views...it's breath-takingly beautiful! This is our vacation home with our 4 children, and we want to share it with you when we can't be there.
A little more about the cabin - it's a one bedroom (cozy and comfortable), one full-bath, a cool 'ladder-loft' that comfortably sleeps two (twin mattresses), a sleeper sofa in the living area, a fully equipped kitchen, a TON of extras including a Pack-N-Play for your littlest one, a fold-out toddler cot, an umbrella stroller to use when strolling through town, various size snow boots during the winter season , snow jackets in size small in women's and medium in men's, snow pants (if they fit, you're welcome to use them), super soft blankets for star viewing, and so many extras.
Step through the 'Looking Glass' and experience snow-topped trees and mountains in the winter and crisp, cool terrain and hummingbirds that whir by during the spring and summer. Spectacular views are what sets our cabin apart. We are 10,000 feet up, and our deck offers an unobstructed view of the mountains. We face the absolutely spectacular sunrises, and go to bed with cozy fires. Please be advised that you will need a 4WD vehicle during snow months (typically late October through April usually) to make it up and down the mountain.
If you'd like a little adventure while you're here, there is plenty to do right up on the mountain, down in Idaho Springs and within a short drive! For the outdoorsy, hiking is very popular (a hike to St. Mary's Glacier is a MUST), ATV tours are a five minute drive away, fishing (we provide 2 passes, poles, and a stocked tackle-box!) to fish in 2 private stocked lakes (catch and release only); horseback riding within 30 minutes, ziplining, white-water rafting, SHOPPING and DINING in quaint Idaho Springs...), but honestly, just buying groceries in town for dinners, watching some movies or your favorite show on satellite with a glass of wine or a local beer on the deck or by the fire may be just what you are seeking. We cherish memories and want this getaway to be 'that memory' for you!

Great little cabin with amazing views. Sunrises are worth waking up for and we love the peacefulness of the location. Great for snow in the winter when we go and close to town or ski slopes. Love our trip here every year
Cabin is very nice and the views from the front deck, and drive to and from cabin are breathtaking. Pictures do not do it justice. Host is very helpful and responsive.
We absolutely LOVED everything about this cozy cabin! Perfect size for me and my partner. The views: breathtaking. You literally have the majestic mountains surrounding you. Cabin: gorgeous. So cute and quaint and comfortable. We enjoyed hiking the St Mary's Glacier trails right next to us and driving into Idaho Springs for BBQ. Only thing missing was a fire pit outside. Definitely would return!!
My husband and I enjoyed a few days in Colorado last week and stayed at the Alice cabin in winterland. We were very pleased with all aspects of the cabin!! Charlotte, the host, was so accommodating and quick on responding when I reached out with questions. Her instructions for check-in and check-out were very easy to understand. The cabin had everything we needed for our stay and it was very clean. I would recommend this cabin if you are looking for something quiet with a Mountain View!
And again, Charlotte was an awesome host! Thanks again for making our get-away an enjoyable one!
We booked this cabin for my husband and I to have a quiet getaway and unwind. We had no problem finding the cabin as it’s very remote. But you have to have a four wheel drive to get up the mountain and driveway as we found out later for even more. The cabin was fully stocked with everything you would need… but there is so much personal stuff from the owners we had a hard time finding places for our own stuff to store. The layout was perfect and cozy. I think the only issue I would have to say was I had was the cleanliness. It was very dusty as my husband who has dust allergies had a hard time. Thank goodness I brought allergy meds. I think a deep cleaning is needed. On our third day we were hit with a snow storm that had us stuck in the cabin for two and a half days. Luckily we shopped and stocked up as one of the locals warned us it was coming. We got 15 inches of snow and it was the most magical thing I’ve ever experienced. The owner supplied snow boots, gloves and Parkers so we got to play in the snow. There were plenty of board games so we did play games, which we haven’t done in years. Eventually the snow stopped and immediately the plows came and cleared the roads and the driveway. So we were able to get out and make our flight home. All in All it was wonderful. The views are perfect. And it was well worth it. I would return in a heartbeat.
Super peaceful with great views. Super close to St. Mary’s glacier too. One thing to note, the cabin does not have AC, as stated in the listing. Luckily, we got a little cool front the first night we’re there so it stayed pretty comfortable. Otherwise, very enjoyable.
We enjoyed celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary in this beautiful, quaint home. The view of the mountains was awesome! Only suggestions would be better lighting in the bedroom and perhaps heat source on the deck of some sort as we would have loved to spend more time outside but did not due to the chilly weather. Thank you for a great vacation!
Stayed two night at Charlotte's property in St. Mary's glacier and had a wonderful time. It was a great place to get away for a while with beautiful views.
We stayed at the Alice Cabin and really enjoyed our time there! The cabin was very clean, cozy, and had amazing views with beautiful sunrises. The space was comfortable and peaceful. The only small issues we had were that neither lighter worked, so we purchased one for the wood stove. There was a slight smell coming from the sink—possibly the garbage disposal. The bathroom could also use a few small upgrades, like a new shower head. Overall, it was a great stay and we’d definitely recommend it with a few minor improvements!
This is the perfect cabin to hideaway in to do some journaling, meditation and relaxation.
The sunrises and sunsets are very beautiful and the surroundings very serene.
This cabin was tucked away in a quiet area. The views were spectacular! It was very peaceful and had plenty of kitchen supplies, towels, etc. for the stay, as well as extra toiletries in case you needed it. The drive was not bad to town from our location. The host was easy to get in touch with, and the local caretaker's and other numbers were displayed as well if needed. The listing did say there was A/C, but there was only heaters and the wood fireplace inside. There was a box fan inside which was sufficient along with an open window for early September. Thank you again for a wonderful stay!
Whenever you rent a place to stay you worry if it will be everything it seems. Alice in Wonderland was everything we hoped for and more. A great place and host. I would highly recommend.
