After 8 years hosting, with 154 great online reviews and 3 guest books full of wonderful guests notes, one guest decides to give me a bad review. I guess I should just ignore it, but I work very hard for the comfort and joy of my guests. First of all, let me clarify that I don't have the time nor the interest in monitoring my guests. I only have one Ring camera by my front gate to be able to see who is ringing my doorbell as a precaution and as a deterrent. Many people do that nowadays and I think that is a good safety measure. The second morning after Joan arrived, my husband was working in the garage and heard men's voices on our property. He told me about it and when I came outside, Joan was leaving our guest house with her grandson and three other young men. Well, Joan and her grandson (who works and lives at the marine base) were the only two people in the reservation. As per our contract, no other overnight guests were allowed to stay in our property. I reminded her of that, although later I allowed her grandson to invite one of his friends to stay overnight. I guess that after that first incident, Joan felt guilty and "monitored" That was not the case. Although our vacation rental is not a hotel (there is no maid service), it offers the convenience of a full washer and dryer where guests can do their own laundry for free without leaving the guest house. If Joan had asked for more towels, I would have given them to her. There are four motion sensor lights, as one comes in the gate to the guest house, that illuminate the way. A light switch for the lights for the stairs and the guest house front door is a dual switch located both at the top of the stairs and by said door. Because our neighbor's bedroom is on the same side of our guest house, I asked Joan not to leave the front door light on all night. She actually answered that she didn't care about our neighbor. I didn't think that a young marine would have a problem handling a light switch. The guest house has two bed rooms. The back bedroom does not have a black window. It is just a darker room without a view as described. I feel sad for this lady that thought that she would come to Hawaii to visit her 20 year old grandson and that he would spend all 50 nights and days accompanying her and driving her around (she wasn't planning on renting a car). I did a lot for her, lending her my crockpot and other things for her to cook for her grandson and friends, providing her with many other additional things she requested, advising her on where to go, going out of my way to give her a ride to Ala Moana Shopping Center, etc. Mostly, I think she might have been disappointed with her own plans for her vacation and there was nothing I could do or provide to make her happy. I am thankful to have very happy wonderful guests 99.5% of the time. Aloha
