I'm so happy we decided to stay at this location and not in Kailua proper. It was only a short drive to all the major attractions and conveniences of greater Kona, but the property gave the illusion of seclusion on the mountain. It was quiet, peaceful, colorful. There's wide variety of flora on site, and a fair amount of fauna, too. I personally loved the frog serenade each night and rooster chorus at dawn. (There are earplugs in the home for those who didn't.) We enjoyed several breathtaking sunsets from the lanai. The early morning vista, with the water glistening in the distance, is equally as beautiful.
It is a short walk to the center of Holualoa, an artsy hub with a neat vibe. There are a few galleries, boutiques, and a great coffee shop. If you're lucky enough to visit in the beginning of the month, you will enjoy the local food vendors and music of First Friday.
The home itself is clean, spacious, and fully-stocked with anything you might need for your comfort. The cooler temperatures at that altitude make AC unnecessary. The window screens and ceiling fans help to push air around, otherwise it might get a bit damp. The value of the wrap-around lanai (open and screened) cannot be overstated.
We would certainly stay here again and recommend it for anyone looking for a central, yet peaceful spot from which to enjoy Hawaii Island.
