The property was in a beautiful spot on the Hamakua Coast - very close to Hilo and to Angel Farms. The room was clean, the breakfast fruit was fresh and perfect, the bed was very comfortable and everything was very easy. Loved the pool as well - the only thing missing was a jacuzzi!! :) Thanks for a great stay!

Perfect holiday retreat

Hale Kai is simple but has all the necessities for a comfortable stay. The views were beautiful from the lanai and the pool with ocean view was an added bonus. It is the perfect location to explore Hilo.

Views for days!

My husband and I love the location of this rental and have stayed here twice. We always enjoy the daily breakfasts with lots of fresh fruit and the relaxing sounds of the waves. The pool was lovely and secluded. Definitely will stay here again.

Excellent Location! Free breakfast

Loved staying in this room. View to the ocean was spectacular. They would stock the fridge with fruits and yogurt for breakfast every day. Room has no AC and bathroom gets Hot but no big deal. Bed was super comfortable. There’s quite an amount of stairs to reach the roo.

B&B at it's best

This is our first B&B and we were very impressed. Great fresh breakfast provided every morning. Beautiful surroundings and sunrise. Not too far from town and excursions. We highly recommend this place and our wonderful host who was always available when needed.

Nice room for short term stay

Great space next to the ocean

We had a nice stay at this space. The only cons were the hot tub didn't work, and our door wouldn't lock from the outside with the key provided, but the space was secluded and we felt very safe despite. We would certainly stay in this beautiful space again. Mahalo!

Great view, clean room. I wish there was AC, but we enjoyed our stay. The girls next to us were a little annoying by playing their music and loud while in hot tub.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: To get any airflow into this room you have to open the curtains and if you open the curtains, it’s look right on to the walkway, so zero privacy. Tv is tiny and they need to check remote operation. Otherwise it’s a nice location.

Quiet road. A short drive into town. Able to watch surfers at Honoli'i Beach. Saw whales from the lanai. Continental breakfast was filling. The driveway is quite steep. If reserving Moana, you might want to back in.

Amazing views and relaxing vibes

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We had an incredible stay. The room was quite spacious, the bed was very comfortable, the breakfast was delicious. We loved the sunrise wake ups each morning and falling asleep to the ocean waves and salt breeze. The tropical vibes of all the floral and greenery around the place helped make it more and more like paradise found! We only stayed a couple of days because we opted to try both sides of the island for the different "vibes" but we were actually disappointed to leave and try something else because we knew it couldn't be "better"!!! It was nice to stay somewhere without the touristy feel. We highly recommend and would for sure return for another stay!!!!!!!!!

We enjoyed waking up to see dolphins swimming off shore. The one downside would be that the room would get a bit hot at night because there isn't A/C, and wasn't much of a breeze coming in from the window.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My husband and I stayed in the Moana room for two nights. I loved the fresh beachy decor of the room and everything was extremely clean. We enjoyed the breakfast left for us every morning of fruit, hard boiled eggs, yogurt and muffins. The views from our room were breathtaking! On New Year's Eve we could see fireworks going off all around the bay. During the day we were able to watch the surfers down below.The property managers were very helpful and friendly. I loved everything about this vacation rental and would highly recommend it.

We know the way - to enjoy our stay

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I apologize for the eye roll inducing Review Title...We had a fantastic stay at Hale Kai Suites. The Moana Room was lovely! The views were unbeatable! The pool was refreshing and the hot tub (and the view of Hilo from it) were luxury!! The in room breakfast was perfect, especially the Papaya on the 2nd day!! Honolii was "home away from home" through my childhood and it was wonderful to get to experience a stay on this road, with these views, one more time. My only issue was there were some problems with Hot Water. It would occasionally take a long time to warm up (15+ min) but this was not always.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The guesthouse is located just 5-10 minutes north of Hilo, depending on traffic (morning rush into town will take longer). The views out of Hilo Bay are amazing. It is whale season and every morning we saw dozens of them out in the bay.Our room (Moana room) was clean but basic. We had a microwave, fridge, toaster, and coffee maker. Fruit and muffins provided.Not for people with mobility issues as there are steps down and back up to get in and out of the rooms. The driveway is also steep and it can be a challenge to get your vehicle out. The left turn onto the main road to Hilo can be tough as well during heavy traffic and at night with low visibiility.Overall, great place to stay during a visit to Hilo.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: No air conditioning which we knew, but room very muggy. Lacked privacy. We had to pull heavy drapes across our screen door for privacy therefore blocking any air flow. Room was dark. Asked for ice and we were told not part of the contract. Had to buy our own. Nice view. Difficult to drag luggage into room ... have to go down a set of stairs and then up. Parking available but very tight.

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location here is absolutely gorgeous! The property is set on a hill that overlooks the ocean, where whales frequent! We were able to see whales right from the patio area in front of our room! The property has no AC, which we anticipated, but the only way to get air in the room is by leaving the screen slider open, with no way to lock it, which made me a little uneasy. The room would get very warm during the day, but thankfully, it cooled off fairly quickly once said door was open. The room was super cute & we loved the decorations, but the mattress and pillows were *awful.* It felt like we were sleeping on cement it was so firm (and the pillows were the same). They also provided a tasty breakfast each morning, which we really enjoyed. There was so much to love about this open-air property! If they update the mattress & pillows, we would definitely return.

Great Room, Tricky Parking

I understand that the renovations are nearly done, but they’re still causing complications. When we arrived, the small parking lot was half filled with workers’ trucks, so we had to wait for them to leave. Admittedly, we arrived about half an hour early. We were supposed to have a particular space reserved, but even after the workers left, a truck was still in our space, so we had to park in a different one. We went out for dinner, but when we came back, a sedan was in our space, so we had to choose another. In practice, I guess, it’s first-come, first-served, or take what you can get. Also, the driveway is, as ever (this is our third stay at the property), quite steep, making it a bit of challenge to maneuver your way out, especially if you have to do so in reverse. Still, it’s a beautiful and delightful place, especially if you like to get up in the dark and watch the sun rise. It’s worth some inconvenience and anxiety in the parking lot.

Beautiful View

The weather in Hilo was very overcast most of the time we were there, which is something that obviously can't be controlled. The amazing part was that the view was still beautiful even with the drizzly weather. There were always surfers to watch from the pool area. We didn't use the pool or hottub. I did do yoga one morning by the pool. There was a beatiful sunrise the last morning we were there. The table and chairs outside our room were under a little overhang, so we could still sit outside and enjoy coffee or breakfast in the morning. Speaking of breakfast, my husband LOVED the muffins that were provided eahch day! I appreciated how environmentally friendly they were with even providing a little composting container for our food waste. There was a refrigerator with a freezer in our room and a larger refrigerator and freezer in the common room if needed. The room was very large, so we had plenty of space. The flowers along the stair walkway from the parking space to the room were lovely. There were whales spouting out in the bay each day. They were pretty far out, but it was still exciting to see! When I had questions, they got back to me right away and were very kind.
