Horrible experience I am waiting for a total refund
I called VRBO immediately after we walked into the unit to express our total disgust at the filth and smell. VRBO did not provide a clean livable rental unit, VRBO broke the contract. I expect a total refund.

Not exactly what I had thought I booked
North Shore is amazing, and this listing is good, but not great. First, I am pretty sure someone lives here, and know for sure someone lives downstairs. There is no a/c, and even though it isn't avoiding this fact, it isn't advertised as clearly as I think it should be. After getting over those hurdles, the house & 3 legged cat were good. The house has been remodeled, but looks like it could use another coat of paint and a deep clean. The tough part was when they asked to keep sand out of the shower, but there is no outside shower provided. If the price was lower, I would be happier with my stay.

We stayed one night & upon arrival, immediately booked a hotel. First off, there is no AC, which isn’t stated anywhere, but it’s stated that it’s newly renovated. We can get over the AC, as we know not all homes in Hawaii have them, we just wish we knew going into it. However, the many bugs we were sharing the property with was unacceptable. Even if it’s a “tropical location” as owner used as an excuse, still unacceptable. The property is not clean. Residue left in appliances. Ants crawling on fridge, counters, floors, walls. A gecko was found in the bathroom on the counter. Crumbs found on the floor through out the house. Very unhappy. This isn’t a huge deal, but paint is horribly done, which in my opinion, reflects how much effort was & is put into the home. Another thing, the living room & kitchen has no curtains, so there’s no privacy in there. Glass door & many windows. So keep that in mind. One last thing, there are people living or renting the unit below this home. Which again, wish I knew.

Horrible Stay - Urine smell, half-eaten food, ants crawling up wall, stained couch, no AC
Don't be fooled by the pictures of the remodeled kitchen and bathroom (the rest of the house is shabby!) and do yourself a favor and give the other bad reviews/comments consideration before wasting your money here. The first thing we noticed upon arrival was a STRONG SMELL OF URINE coming from the hallway bathroom, similar to what you might expect at a dive bar where drunk people miss the toilet and pee on the floor/walls. We immediately stuffed towels under the door to keep the smell from permeating the rest of the house. There was half-eaten food in the fridge including a huge vat of hummus, a smoothie in a glass and a partially eaten lollipop on top of the fridge that had a trail of ants running up the wall. We spent about 2 hours cleaning out the fridge, washing dishes, cleaning kitchen surfaces and washing bedding before we felt comfortable staying here. None of us slept well due to no AC and the house being up against the mountain (considerably more heat than being closer to the ocean). Dealing with the host Vanessa has been a nightmare. She refused to communicate via VRBO messages when I requested the cleaning fee back and would only speak over the phone. She immediately accused me of lying (as she has done to other renters that complain) and tried to manipulate our conversation, acting incredulous saying things like "I don't know what could have happened between the time we left at 2 and you arrived..." She's nothing short of a con artist in my opinion. Beware.

Great stay to experience local life.
My family and i really enjoyed our stay here. Its so comfortable and cute, and has the perfect location. We really felt like locals living here. After staying on waikiki for the week it feels like a whole different island up on the north shore. The place was very clean and the hosts were very communicative and personable. We showed up early and they were nice people to talk to and answered all questions very quickly. The ONLY small complaint I have is that we left all the windows open the fist night and a few bugs got in. This shouldnt be a surprise to us because of how naturally beaitiful the surroundings are on the property. We got rid of the bugs and started closing some of the windows before dark and the problem was resolved. The best part about are stay was the owners outdoor cat TiTi that they usually take with them. She is strictly an outdoors cat so she never goes inside. When the owner was getting ready to leave after cleaning, he couldnt find her to take her. But we love cats so we just said we would care for her for the weekend so he didnt have to find her. He agreed and we FELL IN LOVE with how sweet and adorable this little cat is. Shes always sitting on the deck waiting for us or comes over right away when you call her. She loves pets and cuddles. And shes so talkative. We took pictures, and sat with her for hours, played with her. We really are going to miss this silly cat! TiTi made our trip a 10/10! Thank you so much for letting her stay!

Beautiful lush green valley
This property exceeded all our expectations. The location was amazing! Located one block from an amazing semi secluded beach yet tucked away in a green beautiful valley away from any excess noise. Waking up every morning to the Hawaiian birds singing was delightful. Everything was clean and nice. Kitchen fully stocked with everything you need and even toys in one of the bedroom’s closets for the kids to play with. Vanessa was very helpful and responsive to any of our needs/questions. Would highly recommend. We will certainly be back and hope we can stay here again.

5 Stars!! Location Location Location!
This beautiful North Shore home was absolutely perfect for us. We were traveling with my husband and 4 small children and we all loved it. There were even toys in one of the closets for the kids! We also enjoyed the bikes provided. This house had everything! There is a huge back yard too! The house is in it's own private valley so it was very quiet at night. We all slept great! It is just a short walk to a beautiful private beach next to Sunset Beach. We will definitely be back!

Sweet Stay on North Shore
We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful location! We loved the light coming through all the windows, the lovely kitchen, and the beds were comfortable. We enjoyed the use of the grill and eating dinner out on the deck. We could have used a microwave, but made do without it. Thanks for letting us use the beach chairs. It was a great walk from the house straight down to the beach along a wooded path. We'd love to stay here again.

DO NOT RENT SWITCH AND BAIT
I wish I could rate NO STARS. THIS PROPERTY IS HORRIFIC!! Upon arrival after a full day of travel and over an hour drive with a car full of Costco groceries we arrived to the property that was FLITHY !!! In the hallway was a pile of dirty towels. Dirty dishes and stuck on food in the kitchen sink none of the linens were washed. The photos online are a FAR MISREPRESENTATION of this property. I immediately sent the owner text messages NO RESPONSE I then contacted VRBO customer- after more than an hour on phone Nothing can be done owner is the only one that can help —STILL NO RESPONSE. Beyond disgusted and feeling stuck we began CLEANING property. We washed dishes and stuck on on food - there was dead bugs all over the house and we detailed the refrigerator, washed multiple loads of laundry so that my mother in law could go to bed. The linens and dishes are all mismatched like from a garage sale. The paint in the bathroom was peeling off the wall and paint throughout the house was mismatched . My husband and I went to bed on a the mattress with no sheets I did not sleep as my anxiety was through the roof. I woke up and immediately contacted VRBO the rep again tried to contact the owner by calling her,NO RESPONSE. 17 hours later the owner finally texted with “I can send the cleaner over”. The only help we received from VRBO was the SERVICE FEE (which is not the cleaning fee) the owner then took credit for that though as if she refunded the cleaning fee. I wanted my money back and I wanted to get out of this slum lords property. We invested more than money in this property we were trapped. The owner refused to refund our money - we tried unsuccessfully to negotiate a refund. Finding another property in Hawaii the same day was impossible without investing double the price. The owner never responded after that. She is not a hood business women The most disappointing thing is multiple times VRBO said this property could not be removed from the website. And the “BOOK WITH CONFIDENCE GUARANTEE “ did not apply. I would not recommend this property. I did not feel clean or safe.

Great Location, new Vrbo owner
The location is great, 5 min walk from sunset beach. I can tell this is a fairly new Vrbo renter as there were a few oddities. Mostly a fridge door full of condiments and odd arrangement of glassware. Not a big deal either way, but I haven’t seen that at other Vrbos. The other thing to note is that it is very difficult to get in touch with the owner. Make sure you have move in instructions well before you go. Two different tenets in the unit below us couldn’t get in because the owner wasn’t answering her phone or text. The second tenant was stranded late night with a young boy trying to get in after a long day of travel. The last thing to note is that there is no A/C, which made the unit very hot during the day. It does cool off fairly nice in the evenings but we still needed a large fan in each bedroom. At the end of the day, we’d definitely stay there again now that we know what to expect.

Beautiful surroundings
This has the feel of a family home. Somewhat rustic. Close to beaches. Quiet neighborhood. No a/c which was ok but also can get warm at night. Vanessa came by to check in and she is a super nice and helpful. Lovely outdoor surroundings and beach. Nice for our group of 6. A great area if you are a beach lover.

Poor communication style, but great location
Cons: - Wet sheets used put on the master bed by the cleaner. I let Vanessa know. She offered to send the cleaners back to dry the sheets and remake the bed. I declined since I didn't want to to be hanging out the rental while waiting for the dryer. The towels were wet too. More towels/sheet here hanging in the closet very wet. A different system needs to be set up when tenants are renting back to back. - Then I asked Vanessa if there was a bike pump so we could pump the bike tires. She responded, "Now I know you're lying. You've lost your credibility." I was shocked at being called a liar when I have no reason to lie. It's not a big deal for us to pump the tires. She later texted that one of the bike is not operational, but no apology. - I hadn't gotten the entry code or wifi pw the night before our departure so I e-mail Vanessa. She e-mailed me the code, but on the phone claimed she had already sent it. It's possible that I missed it, but I don't think so. - Tub didn't drain well in the master bath. - No dresser or closet space in the master bedroom. Vanessa suggested using the closet in another bedroom. This is not a good solution if all 3 rooms are occupied. - no microwave even though the listing indicated that there is one. - Could use more seating area in the living room. Dining table only has 4 seating even though you could potentially have up to 6 people. Pros: - Location is nice and quiet. - Outdoor patio is very nice. This rental has a potential to be an amazing place with some improvements. Kitchen has most things you need, but disorganized. Bedroom closets have random unnecessary stuff, including garlic in a bowl.

Property is really nice, and convenient as far as location and everything. Nice open layout inside the house, also the deck in cool(although we didn’t utilize it, since we were out and about), washer and dryer are nice for days after swimming/hiking etc, WiFi is super fast(my son is a pc gamer). Overall, really enjoyed our own space and would rent again. 👍

As we were one of the first staying here, the property was not quite all in place for our arrival. Vanessa, the owner, contacted me the day we were to arrive to let me know that they were still short one of the beds for the master bedroom and asked if we were ok with her just putting a matress topper on the floor until the bed was put in. Not ideal but we knew we could make it work. Upon arriving an hour after check in she was still at hte place cleaning and asked for a little more time. We left and went to the store to purchase a few items. When we came back she was leaving. It took us a little bit to be oriented. We reach out with a few questions and got immediate responses. We loved the location, the accommodations, etc. I would recommend especially feeling like those initial issues are probably all dealt with.
