Hotel Sonnenberg was absolutely fantastic. The views, hospitality, location, and cleanliness were all beyond my expectations. If you are willing to accept the walk up (take as much rest as you need), this is the perfect place to stay in Grindelwald.

I booked the superior twin room, which can see the Eiger from the balcony. The view is extraordinary! The staff is very helpful and nice! To friendly remind, you have climb up long steep slope to go to the hotel, but you can keep uour luggages at Hotel Derby next to Grinderwald tram station after checking out.

The view is absolutely stunning from the hotel balcony. It would be a bit difficult to walk up if you are having heavy luggage, but it is actually quite close to the train station when you walk down with nothing in hand. Breakfast is also good.

Got lovely views of Grindelwald from the hotel room. The staff were helpful and friendly. Take advantage of their free breakfast - they’re good! Besides there are limited options to eat from within the area is you wish to eat super early in the morning. Only con to this hotel is that it’s ~7 min uphill away from the main street.

We were flattered to find that we were upgraded to a nice corner room overlooking Swiss Alps on the second floor, the view there was fabulous! The room was tidy and comfy. Breakfast was good with reasonable options on food selections. Overall it’s been a pleasant stay.

What a lovely place to stay. The mountain view from both the bedroom and breakfast rooms were fantastic. As the hotel has an elevated position above the town the view is uninterrupted...certainly worth a little extra for a mountain view room with a balcony. The room in the chalet was atmospheric, warm and cosy and very clean. The hotel's elevated position does mean you have a steep path to walk up so a reasonable level of mobility is required...we were there in the snow and it was manageable but icy in places so good footwear is a good idea. The hotel proprietor was most affable and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel for its quality, ambience and the views of the mountains, and the Eiger in particular, are simply stunning. From the balcony we watched skiers and sledgers coming down the floodlit pistes every evening whilst having a beer. The hotel is very conveniently located for the town and railway station and hence trips up the mountain on the Jungfrau rack and pinion railway. If coming by train from one of the airports don't forget to buy a Swiss Rail half price pass as this gets you half price on the Jungfrau 'Top of Europe' railway and on the main cabin lifts as well as from the airport itself. We can not wait to go back to Hotel Sonnenberg again both in the summer and winter.

buy a golfcart for your guests use
the only reason i won't give this hotel a 5 out of 5 rating is if you have a heart condition, leg or hip issues you don't want to stay here as the walk from the parking lot to the hotel is easily 250 meters up a 10+ degree hill. No close parking or assistance getting up the hill..it was not a good experience for my companion. Hotel is good, staff friendly and room was nice.

The condition of the hotel is a bit old, the blanket itself turns yellow and with stains which make me feels uncomfortable. Also, there were a lot of little insects around the room, so please be careful to choose when you concerns the above. You also need to walk through quite a number of inclined road and there is no lift inside the building. Other than that, the hotel staff is friendly and the breakfast is good.

The view is nice from the balcony, however the cleanliness of the accommodation is very poor. I found quite a lot of bedbugs on the blanket. I've never seen a hotel like this. And the remote control and hair dryer are very dirty. Luckily I have only spend 1 night here. And also the location yes quite convenient, but there's a big slope that needs so much strength to carry the heavy suitcase up! I found the whole experience is very disappointing, the only good thing is the view from the balcony.

Perfect views, lovely room.
Beautiful hotel perfectly located. Charming and what a view. We are talking mountains here so be prepared to walk up and down hills. If you are out of shape this place might no be for you. Otherwise it is well worth the short hike from the parking lot.

Very cozy and pleasant place. Incredible view. We had an early check-out and the hosts prepared sandwiches, fruits and water for the our trip ;) it's very nice. We'll definitely be back! ;)

Swiss Chalet with hills
Nice old Swiss style chalet hotel with great views. But note this hotel is not for the mobility impaired. There are three small very steep hills between the train station and the hotel. The hotel does not have an elevator. The breakfast was very good. The service was also good.

Great location, friendly staff
Highly recommended. Very central location, but just above the village and so very quiet. The room was large and had a great view. Also, I missed the check-in deadline because my train was running late, but someone stayed late at reception to welcome me.

I spent lovely days
This is slightly isolated from the town. I enjoyed the great view and quiet atmosphere. The location is ideal to access to all transportation. I cannot forget services provided by all staff members.

Strenuous walk from train station. Twice as long as indicated in description. Biggest problem was bedding was for winter stay no top sheet. No screen on window. Was very hot with no air movement. Difficult to sleep.

amazing view of grindelwald village and the eiger mountain from our balcony. room was clean with a comfortable bed but very small so if you have a big suitcase you wont have room to open it up. hotel is up a fairly steep walkway that hadnt been shoveled so we were slipping and sliding all over the place, therefore not appropriate for those with mobility issues. traditional swiss atmosphere in the lounge and restaurant but the buffet breakfast was just so so (no hot options, only cold selection of meat, cheese, muesli, cereal, and various bread options to put in the toaster). receptionist was openly rude, the server at breakfast would disappear suddenly and couldnt be found for a long time, but the maid was nice

숙소 굿!!
숙소가 참 아담하고 이쁘고 조식도 맛있습니다 그리고 직원분들이 너무 너무 친절합니다 리셉션이 저녁 6까지 운영하는데 그 후에 도착하면 리셉션 위에 키를 올려 놓기 때문에 크게 걱정을 안해도 됩니다 다만 언덕위에 있어서 무거운 짐을 끌고 가기는 힘들지만 뷰를 보면 힘듦이 다 사라집니다 그리고 숙소가 정말 머무 이뻐요
