"Clean rooms, spacious, comfortable beds. Staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast horrible. Spongy eggs, watery oatmeal and FAKE bacon? That is a first - the bacon was inedible. The coffee was also watered down and no flavor. Had to go to Starbucks down the road. Fix the breakfast and this hotel would be great."

"This was our 2nd stay at Hotel Fort Des Moines in 6 weeks. The rooms are nicely laid out. Comfortable bed and good climate control during winter temps. I like the extra bathroom counter space which is well thought out for a smaller space. Love the historic building, deserves the love it has received from this hotel operator."

"The sheets had holes in them and were stained. The floor was dirty. The window had air coming in it all night and whistled. The bathroom light quit working in the middle of the night. The trash receptacles in front of the building were both overflowing with trash on the ground."

"I had to extend my stay several times and the staff accommodated me just fine. Also the whirlpool, sauna and steam room and fitness/exercise rooms in the lower level are excellent [the sauna and steam weren't always on and heated up when I went down but maybe I was the first for the day = I didn't want to wait so enjoyed the whirlpool]"

"Loved our visit. We usually stay here when we go to Iowa, but our last visit was terrible. Unfriendly staff made sure we went somewhere else. I contacted corporate, and they said changes were being made at the property, so I thought we'd give it another shot. I'm glad we did. Friendly folks from the front desk to the housekeeping staff. Carpets and amenities are being updated. A+++ and we will stay there again!"
