One of the region’s biggest draws is the Mount Merbabu National Park, home to the dormant stratovolcano Gunung Merbabu. Trekking routes start from the villages of Kopeng to the north and Selo in the southern foothills.

From Yogyakarta Getasan is about a 2-hour drive and a 90-minute drive from Sermarang. The closest major airport is Yogyakarta’s Adisucipto International Airport. It receives flights from Bali, Bandung and Jakarta plus Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Yogyakarta is a good base for arranging village tours and hiking excursions to Mount Merbabu National Park.
