"Spiders, dust, mouse poop(?), moldy shower, broken shower (no higher mount for the shower head so you can only take a squatting shower), *painful* springs in the mattresses, other people’s hair on the floors and appliances… We didn’t get any check-in instructions. The key was just in an unlocked lockbox. Even Hotels.com support through couldn’t get in touch with the host… Big yikes and WAY overpriced for Japan, at least on this website."

"Loved our stay at Kyoto Granbell Hotel. Amazing location, main tourist attractions, bars, coffee, restaurants, public transportation, Kamo River, all easily accessible from Granbell. Staff was amazing and incredibly helpful, they arranged our luggage forwarding to Tokyo as we did not want to bring all our stuff one night to Hakone. Room was incredibly comfortable and quiet, the bathroom with tub was amazing, beds and small table with chairs made it great for a three night stay. We did not have breakfast or visit the bar but they looked great. Loved the self service coffee machine in lobby, snacks were a hit too. Filtered water machine was a great amenity as well. Unfortunately did not have time to enjoy the public onsen but heard they were fantastic. Hope to return and will be suggesting Granbell Hotel Kyoto to others!"

"We would give this hotel 10 stars if we could. Our six-night stay was a dream. We chose a garden twin room, which was heavenly. Showering and waking to a beautiful private garden was amazing, and we really enjoyed the seating area for much-needed downtime between our exploration adventures. Our room was close to the laundry facilities, ice and water machines, vending machines with inexpensive cocktails, beer, soft drinks and ice cream cones. Also the public bath, which we did not use. But we had no noise from any of these nearby amenities. There are three combo washer/dryer units, and we used them twice. There is an app on the TV that shows you how many minutes remain on the current wash/dry cycles, which was super helpful. It allowed us to plan when to get there to put our laundry in, and when it was done. Be sure to have six 100-yen coins for each load. The location is perfect, so close to multiple train stations, great shopping and fabulous little restaurants. (We went twice to two restaurants that were a few minutes away - Chao Chao for gyozen and Isoya for farm to table izakaya and amazing cocktails.) The staff was so lovely and helpful. They arranged transport of our luggage back to Tokyo and quickly remedied an issue we reported to them (one of the beds squeaked). The only negative we can report (and it is minor) is that the elevator down to the basement level smells musty. But once you step out of the elevator, the air is fresh again. No odors in the hall or room."

"It was a great hotel for us.Even I liked another hotel more ( because of more spacious room) , I can't give them less than 5 stars, because the services were great, food was good, their garden was wonderful.The staff was beyond amazing."
