To prevent this, make the most of every opportunity to walk around and give your legs a stretch. Compression tights and socks are also a great idea to help reduce this risk.

• Your travel documents and ID will need to be shown to airport security. Keep them within easy reach so you don't hold up the line.

• Your electronic devices like phones and laptops will also have to go through the machine for inspection. No need to worry though, you'll be back online before you know it.
• Want to bring along your favourite hand and nail cream? Not a problem. As long as the volume is no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and it's stored in a zip-lock bag, you're permitted to bring it with you in your carry-on bag.
• Slip-on shoes are a great footwear choice as you're less likely to be asked to remove them when passing through security. Hiking boots and heavier-style shoes are usually subjected to extra screening.
• Take all prohibited items out of your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp or pointed objects, put them in your checked suitcase. They won't be allowed on board.
