Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a seamless experience if you're well organised. We've put together a list of handy tips and tricks that will help get your Dublin escape started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• The secret to having a stress-free flight experience is to plan ahead. Start with the essentials: passport, travel documents, credit cards and vital medications. Next, bring on board items that'll help keep you entertained, like your laptop or a magazine. It's also wise to pack your chargers, a neck pillow and a pair of earplugs. Last but not least, don't forget to pop in toiletries like a toothbrush, cleansing wipes and a fresh set of clothes.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Leave all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hairspray in your checked luggage. Any liquids or gels in your carry-on bag larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) won't be allowed on. Pointed or sharp objects, like your trusty Swiss Army knife, and dangerous goods which are flammable or explosive, such as spray paint, flares and matches, are also prohibited.

What to wear on a flight:

• First things first. Your boarding pass and passport will need to be inspected by airport security. Keep them at hand so you don't hold up the queue.
• Your coat, belt, keys and other items in your pocket, like your earphones, will need to go on a tray through the X-ray machine. Make your life easier by removing them as it gets closer to your turn.
• Electronic devices like phones and laptops will also have to go on a tray to be scanned. No need to worry though, you'll be back online soon enough.
• Any gels or liquids, such as perfume or hand cream, that you want to bring on board must be no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres). Also, everything must fit inside a quart-size (one litre), clear zip-lock bag.
• There's a possibility that you'll need to take your shoes off to be X-rayed, so wearing lightweight sneakers is always a smart idea.
• Avoid taking prohibited items in your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp objects like a pocket knife or tools, put them in your checked luggage. They won't be allowed on board.
