• Travelling on a plane can be a cruisy experience if you bring the right gear. Sharp or pointed objects, like your pocket knife, and products which are flammable or explosive, such as flares, chemicals agents and fireworks, are also banned.

What to wear on a flight:

• The aisles of an aircraft aren't the place for a fashion parade. Layer up with comfortable clothing and choose shoes that are closed-toe, flat and easy to remove.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Walk around the cabin and give your legs a stretch or do some gentle exercises in your seat to promote better circulation.

As seasoned travellers know, the secret is to be prepared before you reach the airport security gate. That way, you'll be boarding that plane to Cope in next to no time. Follow these helpful tips and get your holiday off to a flying start:

• Your boarding pass and travel ID will need to be shown to airport security. Have them close by to avoid fumbling around for them.
• Time to strip down. Well kind of. Your belt, jacket, keys and other contents of your pockets, like your headphones, will need to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process faster by removing them as your turn draws near.
• Electronic devices like phones and laptops will also have to go through the machine to be scanned. No need to worry though, you'll be back online before you know it.
• Any gels or liquids, such as perfume or toothpaste, that you want to bring on board need to be in containers no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres). Also, they all must fit inside a quart-size (one litre), zip-lock bag.
• There's a possibility that you'll be required to take your shoes off to be X-rayed, so wearing slip-on sneakers is always a good idea.
• Airlines won't allow any sharp objects in your hand luggage. If you must bring these kinds of items, put them in your checked luggage.
