Sharp objects, like your treasured Swiss Army knife, and products which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosol cans, spray paint and matches, are also restricted.

What to wear on a flight:

• Go for comfort over style. Prepare for temperature changes by layering up, and opt for closed-toe, flat footwear like sneakers.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Make a point of walking around the cabin or do some gentle exercises in your seat to improve your circulation.

The trick is to be well organised before you arrive at security. That way, you'll be stepping onto that plane to Brussels in the blink of an eye. Follow these tips and get your holiday off to a great start:

• Be sure to have your passport and travel documents close by. They're the first items you'll be asked for by airport security.
