"The place is located at South Avenue within the ancient city, near to Pingyao South Gate, or 15min walking distance from Small South Gate (alternative, take buggy for 10yuan). The signage for Hongyuyuan hotel was not obvious, it is easier to find using address. The staff is friendly and welcoming. The place is an ancient building, do not expect perfect heating during winter. Food and massage are nearby, is very convenient. The hotel have an restaurant, the food is not bad"

"Beautiful example of local architecture. Awoke to birdsong . High quality linen and towels. Very comfortable bed and excellent shower. Breakfast was great - Western style and very generous ! Staff were so lovely - extremely helpful and generous ! They arranged transfer to and from the railway station which was excellent . Provided a map of the city and restaurant recommendations . Very quick to use Google translate so communication was great. Highly recommend !"

"What a privilege to stay in such an old property with so much history. The room was a lovely size, very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was tasty too. "The hotel is in an unbeatable location. The room was very nice, although the air conditioning unit’s mounting bracket could use some fixing. The bathroom was fine. The highlights were the wonderful woman who runs the place and the hotel’s charming, traditional style, which has been very well maintained. The street it’s on is fantastic, and this town was my favourite of the 15 places I visited during my trip to China."

Great location in the middle of ancient city - everything is happening outside your doors and yet peaceful courtyard. Free Pickup and drop off from train station was a nice service with courteous attention. Overall well run hotel and well appointed. Parting gift of intricately paper cut motifs.’"

"We found the hotel to have a lovely traditional atmosphere, the rooms were large, with many traditional features, we had Chinese breakfast that was interesting. Misha welcomed us and was extremely helpful, we had free tea, we were picked up and dropped off at the station, we loved her! And she spoke very good English! Lovely experience, we were very happy and impressed with it"
